Letitia Dean has begun filming her return to EastEnders.

The actress was confirmed to be coming back to the soap as Sharon Watts earlier this year, after leaving in January 2006. The character departed the Square after her husband Dennis Rickman was killed.

Dean is believed to have started work on the show again on Wednesday (June 6). Sharon will return in a dramatic storyline in which her child Dennis Jr has been kidnapped by an ex-boyfriend, according to The Mirror.

She reportedly enlists the help of ex-partner Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), and embarks on a car chase that leads them into a wooded area in order to find the child.

"Sharon is petrified of losing her son," a show source said. "She has nowhere else to turn, so as a last resort she goes to Phil. They have a lot of history together and he agrees to help, but it's no easy task.

"The scenes are going to be emotional and gripping, which is exactly what Letitia wanted when she agreed to come back. They will be screened at the end of August and should ensure everyone is talking about the return of 'Princess' Sharon."

The kidnap also happens to take place on Sharon's wedding day to an unknown man, according to the Daily Star.

The scenes are expected to air in August, with Steve McFadden recently stating that Dean's return will be "brilliant".
