Thousands of people have taken part in a Thanksgiving tradition, eating turkey testicles.

More than 1,200 pounds of the delicacy were served at the Parkside Pub in Huntley, Illinois for the 30th annual Turkey Testicle Festival, reports the Northwest Herald.

"I love the atmosphere," attendee Tara Graff said. "My favourite part is the testicles."

Graff's friend Brittany Snyder added: "It tastes like burnt chicken. It's really good."

The testicles are coated in breading and deep-fried. Pub co-owner Jeff Lovell likened it to cooking chicken.

"Anything breaded and deep-fried can't be bad," he said. "It's an annual thing for all the people coming back in town for Thanksgiving.

"We get customers on this day that we only see on this day, but we see them every year."

Testicles were served until midnight, with proceeds from the $10 admission fees going to charity.
