Been a while since Locke or Novo did one of these, so here goes. We've had Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Wire and Mean Girls. Our fifth edition shall be based on... Battle Royale. The below will contain major spoilers of what happens in the film, so unless you don't mind, or have already seen it, or have no intention on seeing it, don't read ahead.

There are also scenes of violence below so y'know, don't click if u queasy x

Kitano - James
Fed up with TiBB's shit, and after Scott swings at him with a switchblade in the halls, James is the former substitute teacher who quits and joins the Battle Royale program. He is reunited with his former pupils, and gives them the bad news.


Unknown - Ben
A perky, upbeat but unnamed character, this girl is shown explaining the rules of Battle Royale to the class on a VHS.


Mai - Sarah.
The survivor of the previous program. How did she do it? No one knows (well the sequel explored it and obviously so did the manga but nobody cares okay she's just the creepy smiling girl).

Boys


Boy #1 - Akamatsu - CharlieO
Clumsy and desperate, the first child to enter the island is lucky enough to receive a crossbow. After killing Cherie in stealth, he is panicked to discover Smithy and trips down a small hill, dropping his weapon. Marc retrieves it, and kills him when CharlieO lunges for it.


Boy #2 - Iijima - Nathan
Something of a class clown, Nathan places trust in MTVN and Karl. They travel the island as a pack, and don't get involved in any of the killing, but instead plan to blow up the soldiers' base at the school. Their plan is rumbled, however, by Novo, who promptly kills Nathan and Karl.


Boy #3 - Oki - Niall
Niall reacts to the program with blind insanity and plans to kill Smithy and Caitlin. He attacks Smithy out of nowhere, and they both fall to the ground. He rises from the ground with a hatchet embedded in his head.


Boy #4 - Oda - Black Dagger
Lucas attempts to flee the island on a motorcycle, but encounters Novo out of nowhere. He initially believes Novo to have left him alone, but is then jumped out of nowhere and decapitated. His head is used as a grenade.


Boy #5 - Kawada - Locke.
One of the main protagonists, Locke, a transfer student, encounters Smithy and Caitlin shortly after their run-in with Niall, when they are held at gunpoint by Shaun. He kills Shaun, and stays the rest of the time with the other two. His nemesis is Novo, and their battle ends up killing him even long after the game is over. In a previous edition of the game, he planned to commit a suicide pact with his girlfriend as the last survivors, but she was shot by the soldiers instead. As a result, he is wary of trusting anyone and refuses to respond emotionally to other participants' plights.


Boy #6 - Kiriyama - Novo
One of the main antagonists, Novo, another transfer student, is a quiet athletic boy who takes delight in killing off the other students. He is resourceful and deadly, and soon gets his hands on a machine gun. After being blinded by MTVN in a suicide attack, he is severely weakened, and eventually killed by Locke. However, he has the last laugh, and in his death match fatally wounds Locke, who dies later on.


Boy #7 - (Kuni)nobu - Scott
Smithy's best friend, Scott is wildly rebellious in school and lashes out at James with a knife a year before the game. In the orientation video, Scott refuses to stay silent and lashes out at those in command - who make an example of him by immediately detonating his collar.


Boy #8 - Kuramoto - Joeysteele
A quiet and contained boy, Joeysteele refuses to take part in the games and silently commits suicide with his girlfriend, Kazanne.


Boys #9, 10, 14 & 17 - Kuronaga, Sasagawa, Tsukioka & Numai - Harry., reece(:, JH95 & Glenn
In the novel and manga, these four are depicted as part of Novo's gang - however in the film, they travel together and accuse Novo of being a spy. When it looks as if they are about to kill him, Novo distracts Jake by spitting gum at him and pulls out his uzi. He kills them all.


Boy #11 - Sugimura - Raph
Hapless and hopelessly in love with Mollie, Raph is the first to discover the injured Kate. Shot earlier by Livia, Kate is comforted to die in his arms. He continues his search for Mollie and, in a cruel twist of fate, is shot by her out of fear, believing him to be an assailant. As he dies in a pool of water, he tells her his true feelings. His final words are "I've been in love with you for a long, long time".


Boy #12 - Seto - Karl
I had to give this to Karl because he's unbelievably stupid and I put it down to substance abuse. Part of Nathan and MTVN's trio who plan to blow up the school, Karl runs towards the wilderness believing that Smithy and Caitlin have found them. Waving his flashlight, he finds it's Novo, who promptly shoots him and Nathan. FFS Karl.


Boys #13 & 18 - Takiguchi & Tadakatsu - Iceman & Stu
Little is known of Iceman - as his death is announced over the tannoy. However, a camera cut shows Livia dressing whilst he and Stu lie naked on the floor, dead. This would suggest Livia seduced them both to gain their weapons and vantage point. But hey, at least they went out with a bang #amiritelads


Boy #15 - Nanahara - Smithy
The main protagonist, Smithy quickly reunites with his close friend Caitlin as their names are called out. They are shocked to discover another friend, Niall, has gone insane and tries to kill them - and Smithy is appalled to discover he's inadvertently killed Niall. Although in self defence, it's witnessing this action that turns GypsyGoth insane as she questions her judgment of good and bad. Widely perceived as a sweetheart, Smithy is a lover of music and is presented with a weak weapon - a pan lid. However, he quickly teams up with Locke and the three of them survive until the end. It's a bumpy journey - he endures a gunfight with Novo, witnesses the carnage at the lighthouse and falls in love with Caitlin. The film ends with the pair of them on the run from the authorities, charged with the murder of the entire island.


Boy #16 - Niida - Marc
After stumbling upon the crazed CharlieO and killing him in self defence, Marc disappears for a long time before finding Kate. He confesses his long-lasting love for her, and when she doesn't respond, he becomes enraged and offended, attempting to shoot her with the crossbow. He misses narrowly, scarring her face, and she responds viciously - by stabbing him in the balls to death. Nice.


Boy #19 - Mimura - MTVN
An intelligent boy, MTVN teams up with Nathan and Karl to hack the game's protocols and disable a number of traps. They are successful, and plot on killing the rest of the soldiers, when Karl's stupidity attracts the uzi shots of Novo. Karl dies instantly, and Nathan soon dies after in a gunfight - laughing "when we escape, it'll be together". MTVN, enraged but still smart enough to hit back, strikes at a truck full of gas cannisters with a sword. In the ensuing explosion, Novo is blinded, whilst MTVN is killed. Also he's quite fit isn't he? (the character, not Matt. ew.)


Boy #20 - Motobuchi - Shaun
Booksmart and arrogant, Shaun ambushes Smithy and Caitlin after they kill Niall. He is seen randomly reciting mathematical equations in an attempt to improve his accuracy with his gun, but is unhinged and keeps making wild threats. In this distraction, he is shot by Locke.


Boy #21 - Yamamoto - InOne
Having dated classmate Ammi for some time, InOne is distraught to discover that only one can survive the game. He quickly reunites with Ammi after their separation, and they agree to jump off a cliff.

Girls


Girls #1 & #20 - Inada & Minama - Vicky & Josy
The two are the closest upon separating at the classroom, and are only found later on as corpses. It is believed that they agreed to stab one another to death; too distraught and afraid to go down any other path.




Girls #2, #9, #12, #16, #17, #19 - Utsumi, Sakaki, Tanizawa, Nakagawa, Noda, Matsui - Munchkins (bottom right), GypsyGoth (bottom left), Saph (middle left), Nicole (top left), Vanessa (top right), Niamh (middle right)
A part of a very close-knit clique, Munchkins and her friends take up residence in the island's lighthouse, which plays host to the game's most chaotic and unpredictable murderous twist. Munchkins discovers Smithy after his gunfight with Novo, and brings him back to the others - who unanimously agree to heal him. In their midst, however, is Claudia, who mistook Smithy's encounter with Niall as a total betrayal and cold-blooded killing. She plots to poison Smithy with their food, but the food is mistakenly eaten by Nicole, who dies instantly.

Fingers of blame are wildly pointed, but Vanessa is the first to snap - blaming the chef, Niamh. Niamh, Saph and Munchkins attempt to reason with Vanessa - but Vanessa fires the gun first, killing Niamh. Claudia hides under a table whilst the gunfight gets out of hand - Vanessa kills Munchkins first, before being shot multiple times by Saph. Saph, too, has been shot, and briefly passes out.

Vanessa notices Claudia under the table, and asks "it wasn't you, was it?" Claudia reassures her it wasn't, and Vanessa is finally shot once more by Saph, killing her. Saph - unaware of Claudia - curses the group's stupidity and paranoia, crying "stupid, stupid, stupid" as she dies.

Claudia, overcome with guilt at the accidental death of Nicole and the ensuing fight between her friends, blames herself for their deaths and heads to the top of the lighthouse. Asking herself "how should I know?" she jumps to her death.


Girl #3 - Megumi - sooty
Afraid and armed with a stun gun, sooty takes shelter in a hut full of tools and obstacles hiding under a table. She hears footsteps and, in a kneejerk reaction, flashes a torch and shouts "who's there?" Livia appears, and is the first character in the film to display some aloofness. Livia quietly asks "why not kill? Everyone has their issues", before slitting sooty's throat with a scythe.


Girl #4 - Ogawa - Ammi
Ammi reunites with her boyfriend, InOne, shortly into the game. They agree to jump from a cliff together; an act witnessed by Claudia, further deepening her sadness. At the start, Ammi throws her weapon back at James in refusal.


Girl #5 - Kanai - Jessica
Jessica is the only girl part of the island's largest gang - with Harry, Jake, Reece and Glenn. She witnesses all of them be shot by Novo and pleads with him for survival, but is coldly shot dead.


Girls #6 and #7 - Kitano & Kasuka - StupidHoe & chuff me dizzy
As Smithy, Caitlin and Locke rest awhile they hear a couple of girls atop a distant hill shouting over a megaphone. They beg anyone who'll listen to come and join them, and work out the solution to the island peacefully. Smithy seems eager to help them, but Locke pulls him back and informs him that not everyone on the island will be so helpful. Smithy shouts for them to run, but they don't, and sure enough they soon attract the attention of Novo, who shoots them both in a spray of bullets.


Girl #8 - Kotohiki - Mollie.
Afraid of confrontation, Mollie spends most of the game hidden in a large barn armed with a pistol. When someone runs in through the front door she shoots without thinking, and finds she has fatally wounded Raph. As he lays dying, he warns her that her shots will attract someone, and he confesses his love with her, and she is overwhelmed with guilt. In this state, she is shocked to discover that Livia has indeed heard the commotion - and their conversation. She tells Mollie she should have heeded his words, and kills her.


Girl #10 - Hirono - Lee.
Early on, Lee confronts Livia and accuses her of killing sooty and the hanged Joeysteele & Kazanne. Livia plays dumb, and takes Lee's abuse, until Lee lunges forward. Livia stuns her with the stun-gun she took from sooty, and confesses to the murder, before shooting her in the back.


Girl #11 - Mitsuko - Livia
The game's 2nd most prolific murderer, Livia is stunned to believe she is responsible for killing sooty. She soon kills Lee in self-defence, and it's Lee's taunts and attacks that spur her on to kill again. She ends up attacking Kate and winging her, seducing Eoin and Stu and finally kills Mollie, before being surprised by Novo. She finally meets her match, but puts up a brave fight, and is just generally a fierce ****ing bitch


Girl #13 - Chigusa - Kate
Kate hallucinates throughout the game and is seen jogging around. Quite athletic, she is considered the class hottie by many of the boys and is suddenly approached by Marc. She laughs him off as a creep, and he reacts angrily, lashing out at her face. She bends down and pulls out a switchblade, and begins chasing him down before he can reload his crossbow - eventually pinning him to the floor and stabbing him in the balls. This is witnessed by Livia, who calls her sadistic and attempts to shoot her. Kate is quick to avoid an immediate blow, but is unfortunately winged. She escapes, and comes to a bridge in the middle of the island, where she finds Raph. She asks him if she is dreaming, and he tells her yes, as she dies peacefully in his arms. (Also she's Gogo in the Kill Bill film, so, y'know, double win.)


Girl #14 - Tendo - Cherie
The first student to die, she is taken out by CharlieO who's lurking in the shadows. She runs up to Smithy and Caitlin, with an arrow in her neck, asking "what's happened?" Poor Cherie.


Girl #15 - Nuriko - Ninastar
The island's protagonist, she spends most of her journey with Smithy and Locke, assuring them both that they're merely killing to survive. Her purity and innocence is noticed by James, who, at the game's climax, tells her she was intended to win. In the middle of the game, when Smithy reunited with Caitlin, James appeared with an umbrella and gives it to her, believing Smithy to be dying. At the climax, he reveals a painting of her as the winner. She recoils in disgust, and demands that she, Smithy and Locke win. James refuses, but is powerless to stop them, and is killed by Smithy.


Girl #18 - Fujiyoshi - Stephanie
Stephanie is killed before the game can begin, by James as he lashes out at the children for not being silent whilst watching the orientation. She is caught whispering, and James responds by immediately throwing a knife at her head.


Girl #21 - Yahagi - Kazanne
Kazanne is discovered hanged with Joeysteele by Lee, who believes them to have been murdered. In reality, they absolved themselves from the game, and chose to end their lives on their own terms.

This is fantastic Shaun, I had such a great time reading it, and although I haven't seen the film, you've really got the roles spot-on! I laughed so hard at the Kate and Marc thing, poor Marc hahaha! Also MTVN being the smart one, the role you gave Sooty, Locke and Novo's battles, and not to forget CharlieO's role at the start - pure brilliance Shaun! Thank you so much for doing this, was so much fun to read

Oh and I love the role you gave me too, although how tragic at Mollie killing me It's made me want to watch this film now!!
