A doctor from Greater Manchester has been jailed for 18 years after being convicted of 13 child sex offences.
Stephen Hamilton, 45, of Gaskell Road, Altrincham, was found guilty of offences including sexual assault and rape at Manchester Crown Court.
They were committed between 2007 and 2009 against a child under 13.
He was a "violent bully" who "robbed a bright young girl of her childhood", a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said.
Det Con Nigel Smith, from the force's public protection division, said: "Hamilton displayed all the hallmarks of a violent bully who took advantage of a defenceless young girl and repeatedly attacked her.
'Horrific' abuse
"Not content with the physical abuse he committed, he also subjected his victim to an emotional battering, forcing her to apologise so he could maintain his power over her.
"As a result, a bright young girl has been robbed of her childhood and she will never be able to get it back."
Hamilton was a doctor at Heaton Medical Centre in Bolton, though his charges did not relate to his work there.
The victim reported the historic abuse in late 2011, leading to Hamilton's arrest in December of that year.
The Crown Prosecution Service's Alison Mutch said Hamilton had "subjected his victim to years of horrific sexual abuse and child cruelty".
She said the victim had shown "tremendous courage" in giving evidence and that the "impact" of Hamilton's offences was "impossible to quantify".
