may seem daft but do they get a basic rate for being in there i mean how do they pay their bills etc

They used to get a small allowance (I think it was about £50 per day)

I think it's around £250 a week to cover bills etc while they are out of circulation.

For some of them that's probably more than their normal income!

I think they get a 'living wage', need to be compensated in some way for leaving their lives and all their responsibilities behind for 9 weeks

The HMs daily allowance was originally based on the financial loss allowance for jury service, then £10 per day, subsequently increased, in line, to £30, but it has never been increased to the current allowance, £65 per day.

Well £210 a week is probably a pay rise for some of them!

I always get a distinct feel of unemployment surrounding BB HMs.
