One of my only issues with the film is that these teenagers from the future throw out way too many 80's references and at one point one of the characters wonders whether he should go on a date dressed like Duran Duran...it's just awkward because it doesn't fit. The other problem I had were the constant references, most of which are delightful but towards the middle, the references really start to reach until the last act in which the references become delightful again.

I've not got much else to say about it really, it's Spielberg back to doing what he does best, basically and I loved it.

9/10

I had no intentions to watch it but i did so with my niece and nephews and t had me laughing all the way through.

I just watched Ready Player One and quite enjoyed it.

Although I watched it on a train and wasn't focused on it properly at the start.

I really liked Ready Player One. It does feel like a love letter to the childhood of someone slightly older than myself, but I've always liked retro things so none of it passed me by.

It makes sense in universe - the man who programmed the game filled it with stuff he loved, and then the players would research these things so they could find the Easter eggs, so it wouldn't be quite like a kid from today knowing a bunch of 1920s popculture.

La La Land - 9/10.

I thought I was going to HATE this, not a fan of cheesy musicals and the opening traffic jam song almost made me turn off but I stuck with it and loved it. Loved the "harsh" ending too with the dream sequence of what could have been, almost had a lump in my throat.

Also loved the homages to classics like Singin' in the Rain and classic Hollywood. Although, I actually think this movie could have worked just as well without songs!

Randomly made tonight a bit of a movie night

Happy Death Day 2U - Like a 7/10 (pretty decent but the first one was slightly better, like an 8)

Night School - Love Kevin Hart but this was average for the standard I'd hold a Kevin Hart movie (but I didn't have too high expectations for this one anyway tbf). Still not bad at all though, I enjoyed this too. I'd rate a bad movie like a 4 or worse... this was an ok 5.5-6/10 and not higher only because it dragged on quite a bit

Watchmen (2009)

I hadn't seen this film in a long time and decided to watch it last night to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its release.

This is such a criminally underrated and underappreciated masterpiece that deserves much more respect and demands multiple viewings to enjoy. It remains one of my favourite comic book films of all time.

It was so ahead of its time. Easily a 10/10

Captain Marvel - 7/10
I really enjoyed it, there were a lot of funny parts and no stupid love stories or anything. Also, a cat!

Captain Marvel 6/10

I enjoyed it throughout and I think its been very unfairly panned for I guess what you would call "political reasons", which is a shame, as the feminist angle really isn't overpowering at all. It's there but it's not pushed all that hard

Reasons for it being a 6 though;

- The character is underdeveloped. Not an issue in itself and we'll see more of her, but I'd compare it to the first Thor I guess which was also lacking, but has gotten there in the end and he's one of the better developed characters now. It was also maybe inevitable with her having no memories for most of the film. She also doesn't seem quite comfortable in the role yet but that's also been true of a couple of MCU characters who have grown into it fine.

- Sammy Jackson is good as the character he is in the film but he doesn't appear to be Nick Fury . Even a younger, inexperienced version. Doesn't feel legitimately like the same character, I'm not sure the writers "get" him.

- While the CGI action towards the end once she hits "Full Captain Marvel" status is impressive and excellently done as always with Marvel... Earlier action where she's mostly using hand-to-hand isn't great. Not well choreographed and not well shot. Winter Soldier was a masterclass in physical action scenes and it was YEARS ago, Black Panther was also great, and Widow and Hawke ye have always been decent in Avengers... so there's little excuse. I guess it was considered less important because its not her "real powers" which are more on par with full-power Thor and I presume she'll have from now so won't go back to the high-kicking. Still, it grates as it makes up the bulk of the action here; she only goes full on glowey Captain Marvel in the last 15 minutes or so.

- It does feel a bit like a crash-course in Carol Danvers as prep for her being in End Game. Like the main reason for being there is so that we know who she is next month .

Also, a year and a half ago I would have given it 7.5/10... Part of it being as low as a 6 is because its now being compared to Infinity War, Ragnarok and Black Panther which has upped the criteria for Marvel and makes for a harsher critique.

Captain Marvel I loved that it was set in the 90's nice bit of nostalgia for me I also loved that we got to see more than we usually do of Fury and his back story aswell. The cat was fantastic. I found Carol as a female lead superhero alot more relate able as a woman than most others we've seen so far (besides the flames coming out of her etc ) Not a high heel in sight thank ****. Over all it was a good film, not one of the best marvels but very enjoyable all the same 7/10
