...Suite Francaise...although, mainly a romance type movie, it wasn't too bad in showing Germany's occupation in a French town/the impact etc..and Michelle Williams is always delightful.....so 7/10, I think

The Big Short

At times hard to follow since I'm an economic n00b and a lot of it was designed to confuse/astound like much of the subject matter I suppose but... Steve Carell's performance was excellent and the pacing/editing of the film was gripping. The supporting cast was amazing too, even aside from the main 4 names advertised with it. 8/10.

Spooks - The Greater Good : Not really my type of film, not hugely into spy/secret service movies but It was good to see Kit Harrington out of his Jon Snow character and it was pretty good - 6/10

From what I've read, people who already know / enjoy DC comics lore and the characters like it, casual viewers find it good popcorn viewing (for the action) but find it hard to follow. Seems like it's not very self contained and requires background knowledge of the source material to follow the story.

Quite a lot of films like that really... Where you're like "that was awesome, but if I hadn't read the book I'd have had no clue what was going on...".

Marvel are better at creating films that form a series but are also a self-contained narrative. Except maybe Thor. Anyone coming into Thor 2 without seeing the first one is likely to be baffled

I'm not into comics but as a movie/TV show only viewer I definitely prefer Marvel.

Re. Thor, I had seen the first before the second but either way I would have enjoyed it

I can't actually follow actual comics, I've tried but don't enjoy them. But I do enjoy the back stories etc... Consequently, I have a huge knowledge of DC and Marvel lore gained entirely from film, TV... Wikipedia, and various other wiki type sites . I do that anyway though. Whenever we watch a movie that I enjoy, afterwards I spend ages reading all of the trivia etc. on Imdb. Drives my wife nuts, hahaha. "OOOOOHHH and and and did you know..."

Only as a porn! I guarantee you'd have been completely confused by all of the Asgard / Heimdall / bifrost stuff . They don't explain any of it in the second film, they just assume you know what it all is.

I get most of my back story information from my 11 year old son, was never a superhero fan tbh until I got kind of roped into it by him, seriously every car journey I have Luke talking non stop about superheros so you have to make a choice either go with it and start enjoying them or be driven slowly crazy while trying to resist, the former was the less stressful option

But yeah generally speaking I would do my best to see the previous film before the sequel anyway

It was a good movie with some fantastic performances from John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winster but it left so much unresolved for me and the end was sub par imo

So was Howard a bad guy? had he been murdering teenage girls in his bunker? What became of his daughter?

If Michelle could breath outside the bunker what was up with the crazy woman with the burns?
Spoiler:

RE: the second point - did you not see the part where the large alien ship was releasing the toxic gas? At that part Michelle put her gas mask on to avoid becoming like the crazy lady.

Star Wars The Force Awakens. 3/10 Too long and the script was basically a rip off of the first film.

From up on Poppy Hill - This is a studio Ghibli film, as always the scenery is gorgeous, it's not as weird and wacky as other studio Ghibli films (although i love weird and wacky) it's a real charming anime 8/10
