"It's panic stations after a host of disastrous shows became instant flops and Channel 5 inched ahead in the ratings war."
"the under-performing execs need to stop droning on about their “unique remit” and start screening stuff the punters want to watch..." "the catastrophically unsuccessful Mating Season and all the other dreary dross that can’t even pull in a million viewers" "Tell you what would stop the rot... Big Brother. Which the idiots *decided had run its course. And which is now the cornerstone of Channel 5’s soaring fortunes. D’oh!" Either way they were right to end BB. It needed at least a rest.

Think back to the day we found out it had been axed and how we were feeling. I think we can safely say we, and channel 5, have had the last laugh.

They'll be begging to take it back when Channel 5 drop it (which hopefully won't be anytime soon)

I think they finally realised it was going to be big competition for them though with all the media attention leading up to CBB8. This was backed up by the bitter snipe from them on launch night when a continuity announcer introduced Twilight by saying: ‘Resurrecting the deceased might be what some channels like to do on summer evenings, but here on Channel 4, we prefer the undead.’ Channel 5 went on to have over 5 million viewers and they got about 1 million if less. Now Channel 5 are beating the Channel 4 across the board. Shame Last edited by daniel-lewis-1985; 28-07-2013 at 01:25 PM. |

They will have the opportunity to bid for it when the contract is up for renewal, just like itv did in 2006, which drove the price up for channel 4 to an over inflated Ł170 million.. By the end of the contract in 2010 it was only worth half that. Endemol always used to give channel 4 first dibs on the contract. The bottom line is, channel 4 may, and can bid and poach it from channel 5. It's left a huge hole in the programming that they've failed to successfully fill.

Who gives a **** about c4? seriously its not a team sport.
bb costs about about ten times as much to air as anything c4 show does it get ten times the viewing figures? Be careful about slagging off other channels bb might need them one day. The fact c5 beat c4 in the ratings for a few weeks a year wont worry c4. Last edited by billy123; 28-07-2013 at 01:55 PM. |

I can see Channel 4 bidding for it but Channel 5 ultimately sustaining the rights to it and Channel 4 will probably not get it. Can someone explain the contract renewal process to me? Is it the highest bidder wins or something? And what if there is only 1 bidder?

Channel 5' home grown shows are also beating Channel 4 so im not just talking BB. You clearly arent interested in the topic so no need for you to put others down who are. So yeah I give a ****. Last edited by daniel-lewis-1985; 28-07-2013 at 02:01 PM. |

---------------------- http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/media/ne...g-brother.html ]Published Tuesday, Aug 8 2006, 02:38 BST ITV has begun early talks with Endemol with a view to poaching Big Brother from Channel 4, according to the Media Guardian. C4 has broadcast the popular reality series for the last six years but has no long-term contract in place to keep the show with the network on an exclusive basis. The current two-year contract expires after the eighth series ends next summer. Negotiations on a new deal will begin later this year. A source told the 'paper that ITV's director of television Simon Shaps was prepared to put up an "almighty fight" to take the show. "Big Brother is with Channel 4 at the moment and Endemol is quite happy with them but technically it has no home after next year," the source is quoted as saying. "When it comes to pure financial muscle, ITV could probably beat Channel 4." Last edited by Sawyer; 28-07-2013 at 02:06 PM. |

I just think its short sighted and pointless to put down another channel that did so much for bb is that so strange? What are people going to do if it moves to dave? start slagging off c5? It just seems pointless and childish to me. Last edited by billy123; 28-07-2013 at 02:09 PM. |

So as it stands, there's a good possibility that Channel 4 will bid for Big Brother next year? (but Channel 5 will most likely get it?)

I personally think channel 4 would be too stubbourn to admit defeat by taking it back, but they would certainly have the financial muscle to do it, whether they do or not, I have no idea.

It was shoved back on air in no time and was more overkilled than before - because of C5's love of CBB. It should of relaunched in 2012.

Bit rude mate. Channel 4 did great with BB but the reason fans are so pissed off with them as a Channel overall is the fact they run BB into the ground on purpose. They wanted to get rid of it because they couldn't take the controvercy/Ofcom crew anymore. They basically waved their white flag and gave up then were bitter when it became succesfull for Channel 5. |

I just hope it doesn't go to Sky. I don't have Sky and don't want it either.
