Default Ben Frow says BB will 'start to tail off' in a few years

He said that the broadcaster needs "another beast" to go alongside Big Brother, which he admitted will eventually start to "tail off", although he believes the reality show still has a "good few years in it yet".

"I don't want to be reliant on it [but] it is the great white hope I guess," he said. "One day it will start to fail and tail off. I like to think it has a lot more in it. We will continue to surprise people, evolve it. It has a good few years in it yet."

So basically hes saying BB is temporary.

I miss the days when BB was so big it wasn't even imaginable that it would ever be cancelled.

Ben Frow is right though its on borrowed time, unless someone gives birth or stabs someone on the show.

We are lucky weve have 3 series on Channel 5 when the first 2 flopped.

C5 are about to make the same mistake C4 did. Cancel Big Brother for other 'marketable shows' that end up flopping and then the broadcaster desperately needs BB back for their ratings to succeed again

I'd like to know how Big Brother is viewed by some people to be in its dying days, and yet that pile of dog poo, I'm A Celeb 'still has legs'.

I know I will never watch I'm A Celeb again. Last time was like torture. It's so blinkin' limited and BORING.

Ant and Dec carry that show though.

I have always said this.

Big Brother is so looked down on and seen as the skid mark of tv yet 10 million people tune in to watch celebs eating kangaroo cock and see it as pure entertainment.

Somewhere the viewing public went from loving to hating Big Brother.

It literally is their loss because they are to stubborn to watch it anymore.

Big Brother would have a very good future if they go back to having regular HM's, and no more wannabe's and glamour models...no civilian BB HM's should already have agents.

It's no accident that the best BB's were the ones right up until BB10.

How so?

They have a very tune in to see someone get humiliated/tune out whenever I cant be arsed or eating my kebab audience.

BB is far superior and have a dedicated fan base.

I didn't realise celebs chowing down on foreskin to a backdrop of doomsday music was more entertaining.

You are just blinded by ITV and its commercialism.

Im more blinded by a better class of celebrity.

CBB has only a few half decent celebs, plus the tasks are mostly awful these days.

At least Im A Celeb gets the celebrities actually doing something entertaining and difficult.

This is never going to happen.

Its 2013 theres internet and every opportunity to get on tv.

Even me or you can get an agent just go on starnow.com or *Mad dog or talk to someone on twitter...I did it and got fired from it. Easy to do and easy to lose.

BB was only innocent in 2000 the 2nd series dragged in the wannabes and its been the same ever since.

HM's on the channel4 run of BB's mainly just wanted to get into the BB house, not make a TV career out of it, that's the difference.

I understand that BB is no longer a reality TV show anymore but I don't want the difference between civilian BB and Celebrity BB to be blurred.

I disagree with that- C4 series were full of wannabes as are C5s

Ways they can keep it fresh:

1) Go back to the old editing.

2) Full live feed on the web.

3) New studio/eviction set.

4) Only 1 CBB a year.

5) Actually promote it.

Agree to all apart from live feed streaming on the net...there should be a BB channel on the TV for live streaming 24/7.

There were some wannabe's on CH4 but nowhere near as many as we have now...these days BB is all about scandal tabloid type of HM's rather than regular people with interesting personalities.

You having a laugh?

Channel 4 BB had way more wannabes because they knew they could be famous instantly.....And they actually were.

People who go into BB now know it ist going to make them into an instant superstar like it would have back in the day.

These contestants are a lot tamer than the Channel 4 housemates who ****ed under a table or who masturbated with a wine bottle.

Who in BB14 got naked for the sake of it or ****ed someone?

Noone.

They were the most normal housemates we have had in years.

At least Frow is being realistic. We all know Big Brother has been driven to the point where it's lucky to still be on our screens. The fact he thinks it will last a few more years seems to imply they will renew the contact next year.

Although to keep it fresh more needs to be done to the show. This year has been a great improvement (Emma main presenter, house gutted and with a new unique design, less campness..) although I think they could still take notes from BB's days on Channel 4, while also bringing new ideas in order to make sure the show lives well.

At least Frow is making it clear they want to find something else that can be a leading program for them! The mistake Channel 4 made is that Big Brother MADE the channel what it is, when BB left the channel everything flopped because the show that defined them had gone. So Channel 5 as a channel should be going strong in future hopefully.

As for Big Brother, we should just be grateful it will potentially be on our screens for a good few more years.

I think it's got around 4-5 years left.

Least Frow is trying to find the next beast to go alongside it. If he can uncover it, both shows would keep one another hitting good rating figures.

I do hope he doesn't use big brother to launch and then stablise that program and then proceed in dumping bb.

Anyway i'd take it as a big positive, He's adknowledging BB is crucial to the share and channel in general, that pretty much guarentee's BB isn't going anywhere in the short term. And if it maintains the current figures or improves upon them, then it could be here for more then another 4-5 years.

In that it won't last forever, yes, but nothing will, we're all temporary, forever in the grand scheme of things. The main thing to take for this, is that he thinks there is a good few series in it yet (as do Endemol, who have applied to extend the planning permission on the house for another 5 years, with additional live crowd nights). He's essentially saying that BB's doing great, and they're keeping it, but he doesn't want to bank everything on it, because one day, it won't be. They're just trying to avoid making the same mistakes as C4 and leaving themselves open for when it does end, with nothing to fall back on. Which is good, look what's happened to C4 since they dropped it.

The reason IAC has legs is that it isnt over exposed, By the time it is about to start people look forward to it.
Imagine the clamour for BB if it was once a year in the summer for 10 weeks. The build up would be electric and i could see it attracting figures of 3 million easily. But the benefit of 1.7 million figures for 16 weeks a year (3 series a year) makes more economic sense for C5 when it comes to advertising revenue and satisfying shareholders.

Ben Frow is right he realises that they are in danger of running BB into the ground by using it as heavily as they are at the moment, If they carry on as they are it will be burnt out and used up within 2-3 years and they will be in trouble so they have to find something else to share the load and ease their reliance on BB. If they can do that there is no reason why BB cant do another 10 years but as it is now its not going to last.

I would love to know what percentage of C5's revenue comes from big brother even indirectly they are boosting their other shows by sandwiching shows either side and in between of BB.
