I have no view of Dave Lee Travis at all but overall I am pleased that the taxpayer in this instance is not having to pay loads of money to keep him in prison.

Taking into account all the many charges he was been acquitted on and also the fact that even this verdict was not a unanimous one, being a 10-2 guilty verdict.
For what is was described to be, I saw little reason for a custodial sentence.

As LeatherTrumpet pointed out, with hidnsight, overall this case has been a waste of time, money and police resources, really a caution caould have been the order of the day as to this rather than a trial and then a re-trail with a new charge added too.

This is for me what needs changing in law, there is too much court time taken up with cases where a quicker and lees formal proceedings could take place.
Savinf lots of court time and money too leaving the courts fee to deal with the really more serious crimes, particularly violent and murder cases.

From the BBC Website

Quote:
The three-month suspended sentence given to former BBC Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis is to be reviewed by the attorney general's office.

The 69-year-old was sentenced on Friday after being found guilty of indecently assaulting a TV researcher on the Mrs Merton Show in 1995.

The attorney general's office said four people had complained later that day that the sentence was "unduly lenient".

It will now consider whether to refer the sentence to the court of appeal.

A spokeswoman for the attorney general's office said: "We will be asking the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) to send us more information on this particular case so that a law officer (the attorney general or solicitor general) can decide if the sentence should be referred to the Court of Appeal."

Attorney General Jeremy Wright MP and Solicitor General Robert Buckland MP have until 24 October to decide whether or not to refer the case.

Travis, of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, was cleared of an alleged indecent assault from 1990, and an alleged sexual assault from 2008.

He was being retried on those two charges after jurors could not reach a verdict on them earlier this year.

Travis was was cleared of 12 indecent assault charges during the earlier trial.

I actually don't agree with it going to appeal, however let's see where it goes now, maybe the taxpayer will have to pay to keep him in prison after all for a time with all the expense that involves.

I don't see this as "justice". I see it as an example of the old adage if you throw enough sh1t at the wall, some of it's going to stick.
