Default Shocking new government drink-drive advert ‘celebrates’ people dying in car crashes

Quote:
A new Drink Drive advert has been released showing emergency crews responding to a fatal car crash while singing the Kool And The Gang’s ‘1980 hit ‘Celebration’.

The Think! road safety campaign hopes the shocking juxtaposition of the cheery 1980s song and the car crash scene will help change attitudes.

The government-funded advert first shows a silver car upside down with a woman and man inside, then as firefighters crack open the window they sing along to the 1980s hit.

They continue singing along as doctors try unsuccessfully to resuscitate the man, and as police notify his family.

The final credit reads: ‘But that’s still 280 reasons not to celebrate’.

I think it's really good tbh.... it had a profound effect on me the first time I watched it. Not that I have ever, or would ever, drink and drive. But if it stops one person from doing it, then it's a success in my view.

I agree Linda, these adverts are supposed to be shocking and hard hitting and need to make people stop in their tracks and watch otherwise they're pointless really

Good advert

Scotland are reducing the alcohol in blood level down from 80 to 50mg and so you can be over just with a pint or so

Not worth it now

Brilliant and very worthwhile. It's far more shocking when something so normal like this upbeat track contrasts with so graphically upsetting visuals - an old Horror Film trick. Lets hope this further reduces the already excellent statistics I saw on Breakfast TV.

I think it's a great advert, and probably one of the best ones they've made.

These kind of things are meant to be shocking, so it does the job well if people get angry over it.

I always remember the one of the guys sat in the pub without realising they're really in a car and kill the woman who walks passed and she violently flies across the pub. That scarred me.

I remember that one too.. it was shocking.

I liked this one:

The one with the dead kid with the ginger hair scarred me so much though... I'm not even gonna get the yt link, cos it troubled me.. I think it was for drink driving.. it was definitely for safe driving anyway.. It was along the lines of 'could you live with it?' .. and everywhere the guy was, this dead kid was just lying there.. -shudders-

fantastic advert - they want you to celebrate but not if you are driving as this is what you will be doing.

great hard hitting advert. lets hope it makes a few people stop.

I think it's quite shocking, not just because of the ending but because of the fact that they are actually singing.

It's a good advert, imo.

I agree the more hard hitting the better, some are more pig headed than others so it takes something with more shockability to get through.

Poor taste.... Not a very well thought out advert, certainly not comfortable viewi for the thousands of families affected by drink driving.

I hadn't actually thought of that. I guess any drink-driving ad will be difficult to watch if you've lost someone to drink driving.
