that's disgusting how is he better of dead

imo I wouldn't care if a Caption/Teacher left the ship before the other's because it's his own life

It would make no difference if they stayed on

It depends where has was on the ship at that time. He could not have been with every single student of his at one time, that is impossible. Stop being ridiculous.

Wrong by then the Criminal Captain had gone
he could shout come out of your cabins now.

He could have saved so many kids who phoned their parents
saying they can not leave their cabins.

maybe he forgot, and please just imagine if you where the caption of the ship and it was going down and you had to try and save about 500 people

and stop calling him a Criminal.

Everything about this story is so sad. I can't even begin to imagine being in such a situation, and regardless of whether or not that teacher was rescued "against his will" or left voluntarily before the others, I don't think it makes a difference. In a disaster as big as this one I can't imagine anyone on that ship thought logically and sensibly. To say he is better off dead is horrible. I can only hope that everyone involved can move on in some way or another. Too many lives have already been lost.

how dare you call him a coward, he did the right thing care about his own life first

I bet 100% you would of done the same, or maybe he didn't know where the children where or they where trapped and couldn't get to them there would be no point staying there if there was no way of getting the children out

telling there parents they have been told to stay in the cabins.

...hmmm, but one of my thoughts would also be how cold the water would be and yeah, you could think that at least the children might have had more of a chance for survival if they were off the ship but there would also be a chance of air pockets in the cabins as well though...

Personally I wouldn't have stayed in my cabin if I knew I was on a sinking ship!

..but if there had been air pockets and some had been saved but the ones in the water had been drowned or died of hypothermia, then everyone would have been hailing him a hero for his actions/I just don't think you can judge this and he will stand trial anyway/let the courts judge him...

- On April 16, 2014 a South Korean ferry with 471 passengers sank. The majority of passengers were high school students on a school trip. The ROK Coast Guard has reached the provisional conclusion that a sudden turn and the consequent shift of the cargo was the cause of the accident.

- As of April 16, 2 were pronounced dead with 107 still missing.

Messages from inside the ferry

- On April 17, the death toll rose to 9 with total missing rising to 287.

Teacher Choi Hye Jung (below) sacrificed her own life to save others. She was well known for being bright and very caring.

- The Korean Entertainment Industry came to a halt, with programs focusing on the disaster.

- On April 18, the rescue team successfully entered the ferry. However, there were several mistakes when identifying the wrong bodies and parents were forced to believe that they were wrong even when parents claimed they knew it wasn't their son/daughter and DNA tests proved otherwise.

A parent jumps into the water to find her daughter.

- The death toll rose to 29, 273 still missing.

Ferry completely submerged.

- The underwater search was paused.

- The vice principle of Danwon High School committed suicide. It was his idea to take the students on the trip and he took full responsibility for the accident. He was often heard talking about his guilt after escaping the ferry. He eventually commit suicide, leaving a will that said: "I don't have the will to live when we do not know whether 200 lives are still alive or dead. Let me take full responsibility for everything. I was the one who suggested the school trip. Cremate my body and spread it near the sinking. Should I be their teacher for the lives that were claimed in the afterlife..."

- The captain admitted to telling everyone on board to stay where they were before getting off himself. When asked if he felt wrongly accused, he said, "I do not feel that I'm being wrongly or unfairly accused".

A group message between students saying "everyone let's meet alive". Only 5 people out of 39 read the message.

- On April 19, rescue efforts continued however "no signs of anyone alive inside the ferry" was concluded. Corpses have started to be collected from inside the ferry.

- The death toll has rose to 36.

- The captain has been arrested for charges including negligence of duty and violation of maritime law. He saved himself and left the passengers. He could face life imprisonment.

A mother is waiting for her child to be rescued.

- Gas leaks within the ferry becomes a new problem thus making the rescue attempts more difficult.

- On April 20, 10 more bodies were discovered and the death toll rose to 50 with 253 still missing. 174 people have been rescued so far.
soo sad

..yeah but if there had been air pockets in the cabin and some had survived, he would have been hailed a hero though for doing the exact same thing, it's just one of those panic situations where you don't know how you'll react or what the outcome of those actions will be, he has to live with what happened and those children's deaths which will be far worse than anything else that will happen to him...

Wrong
as they go as it went right under - they went,
The Divers can see from the outside
Floating Dead inside the cabins
from windows outside

Stop sticking up for that Capt.

..I'm not sticking up for him at all, but it was an extremely emotional and panic situation and none of us know how we'd react no matter what we might think we would do or what the right thing to do was, so it's wrong to sit comfortably and judge him, he's pretty much 'dead' himself as well now anyway with what he is now living with..and I very much doubt that when he asked them to stay in the cabins he intended for them to die so he must have thought for some reason that he was doing the right thing...
