Default is it dishwater or ditchwater?

Is the saying
Dull as dishwater?
or
Dull as ditchwater?

I always thought dishwater but on a thread in the bb section someone said ditchwater, thoughts please?

I'd say ditchwater as it has a slight ring to it but it's a good question lol

Edit: I've just asked my mum and she says its dishwater

If you google image what a ditch is, a lot of them will have water

In the city gutters are used for pretty much the same purpose, however they usually direct the rainwater down drains, whereas I believe the ditch water is just left to evaporate, I may be wrong.

Anyhoo, the fact so many don't know what a ditch or ditch water is (maybe it's a rural thing), the saying switched to dishwater, something more people had experience with.

nope I'm not a redneck, although I really like listening to the deep southern accent.

I just like words and phrases, and where they come from.
