Is the saying
Dull as dishwater? or Dull as ditchwater? I always thought dishwater but on a thread in the bb section someone said ditchwater, thoughts please? |

I'd say ditchwater as it has a slight ring to it but it's a good question lol
Edit: I've just asked my mum and she says its dishwater

A ditch is a type of shallow trench or gully dug beside a road, I believe the intention is to take water from the road when it's raining, so the road won't get flooded. And ditch water is mostly dirty and yea very dull.
If you google image what a ditch is, a lot of them will have water In the city gutters are used for pretty much the same purpose, however they usually direct the rainwater down drains, whereas I believe the ditch water is just left to evaporate, I may be wrong. Anyhoo, the fact so many don't know what a ditch or ditch water is (maybe it's a rural thing), the saying switched to dishwater, something more people had experience with.
