Default Political correctness- Winterval and other such calamities

Over previous years, Birmingham City Council have re-named Christmas as 'Winterval' so as not to offend Muslims, Hindus and other faiths. My guess is they will stick with that name this year.

Is this the daftest thing youve ever heard?

I understand the sentiment, but non-Christian religious festivals are not re-named (such as Ramadam, Diwali etc). I dont hear anyone being offended by these.

It seems that everything is done to cater for Muslims etc, and that its okay to upset Christians. Why?

Britain is, in the main, a Christian society and should be treated as such.

I find it ridiculous, why would anyone be offended by a name? If they are offended by the name then we shouldn't pander to them.

I agree, it's pretty stupid. How can a name offend someone.
My guess is because it's Christmas, which obviously contains the word Christ. It's still pretty pathetic though.

World has gone bonkers.
Political correctness is taking over

And whats this about not having the winnie the pooh character in shop windows anymore, cos it offends non-meat eating faiths. Pff... it's not like we're making them eat some pork, it's just a bloody cartoon.

I will call it christmas with pride.

I think I ranted about this last year as well lol

I like Christmas and all that goes with it. I have been brought up with santa claus and christmas festivals, why now do I have to be subjected to such silliness just so that people in local authorities can tick boxes about equality and diversity! Most muslims etc have not asked for these changes and respect our festivals in the same way that we are expected to respect theirs.

I also think that the meaning of Christmas has been lost - it is now a commercial holiday, and the same shops that will not have a nativity display in their windows are more than happy to cash in on the sale of goods at inflated prices during the christmas shopping period!

This all gets on my nerves and as my family are getting on most of my nerves right now I had better save the ones I have left and leave this subject alone for now
