It seems to be the biggest charity drive in the UK and gets by far the most money. And next week on C4 they're having the Stand up to Cancer thing and telling people to give as much money as possible. I'm just wondering what difference is it making? And why it requires so much money? When asked about what difference it's making the fundraiser gives a vague reply about they're closer than ever to finding the cure but we just need more money.
Now I know this is an emotive subject but I'm only asking questions because of the way some charities run. I know it's a great cause and obviously I'd love a cure to be found. But where's all this money actually going?

Hey x
I think - I hope - it's going to fund research. Research is expensive. |

A lot of money that goes to charity gets spent on overheads, administration and so on and only a small percentage actually ends up reaching the cause that you donate it to.
There is a few websites online that you can use to evaluate how much percentage of your donation actually goes directly to the charity. Some charities actually invest the money too. |

15 years ago childhood leukaemia was a death sentence now 95per cent of children are cured, great strides have also been made with regard to other cancers as well, one day all cancers will be curable.

The sad fact is that a very small percentage of donated money actually goes towards curing cancer (the same goes for all charities). Not that progress isn't made, but I personally think that every person should be more aware of where there donated money goes. There are always ways to ensure that your money goes directly to the people who are actually making a difference.
University researchers get by on low wages and live in student digs while charity CEOs have million pound London homes and drive 70k cars. If you do a little research there are better ways to get your money directly to the people doing the research. Always. Last edited by Toy Soldier; 11-10-2014 at 12:17 PM. |
