The stop drinking is to give you some health benefits too though as well as helping out a charity.

But I know what drinking does to me and I make the choice of destroying my liver twice a month after a week of work I think it's only fair that I'm able to unwind a bit

Asking middle England not to drink for a month is like asking them if you can fist their grannies

If I make it to the 14th of this month then I've gone a whole month without drinking.

I would definitely take part because I have a few events in October and it will be interesting for me to not drink in an environment where everyone else is.

Calm down, no one is forcing you, the thread is asking who is taking part

They're scared of an actual challenge.

Or they're alcoholics.

You can't go out without drinking?

If you need alcohol to be fun then you're not very fun.

Some Brits need a drink to loosen their stiff upper lips and stiffen other regions maybe?...

It's a bit of fun you can chose or chose not to take part in. If it raises a bit for charity in the interim that otherwise wouldn't have been raised, that's a beautiful thing.

Seriously. Suck a lemon.

I just don't believe in the art of self promotion in order to raise money for charity

Yeah, I'm a miserable bastard so drinking helps in all honesty I probably could but I'm going on holiday in October so I'll need to drink

+1

Ultimately it only does good. In a perfect world we'd be donating daily to every charity going, but the reality is you need events like this to raise some excitement surrounding said charity to funnel people's interest in the cause it's for.

I thought 'nice idea' until it got to the 'cancer' bit. Cancer charities already get enough, maybe smaller, less-known charities would benefit from these stunts... the ice bucket challenge was a good example of that.

These things are pretty pointless anyway. Personally I just approach a charity myself and donate, no quitting drinking, no changing my habits, no throwing ice water on myself. You know, how things were done in ye olden days.

But ah well, sign of the times of social media and the internet. I guess if that's how we get people to donate to charities these days I can't complain too much.

It's a good idea but I don't see how going sober links to cancer, wheras obviously the ice bucket challenge you'd feel what it is like to have ALS.
