Australia's good before the merge, it features one of the most notorious female contestants of all time. She's referred to as the very first 'villainess' of survivor and is still regarded as being one of the shows biggest villains.

I wouldn't rush to watch Australia though, it might feel a bit flat after watching Borneo cos Borneo is much better. Don't really rush to watch Africa either its DIRE post-merge but the pre-merge is incredible.

Also if you're not bothered about watching in order (idk are you?) I'd watch San Juan Del Sur or Gabon next! I've only seen nine seasons but those two and Borneo are definitley the three best.

If you're planning on watching in order up to All Stars but want to skip a season, btw, I'd suggest Thailand (season 5), because it's generally held in pretty low regard and has the least impact on All Stars in terms of returning players etc

I'm breezing through Samoa now. I think it's a pretty damn good season and Russell is actually pretty great. Possibly my favorite this season although a couple people are close. He reminds me of like a Rated R (kinda vulgar/offensive) version of Tony from Cagayan (based on his craftiness and OTT playing / idol searching)... Not nearly as good as Tony nor as entertaining but still a good comparison for me as Tony is one of my favorites ever. Still, I'm enjoying finally watching Russell after hearing a lot about him. The way he plays the game is fun to watch.
Getting close to the end... I just watched the Spoiler:

I think you should watch all of the season chronologically, TomC. I've done so since March last year and I'm currently on S22. It's fun watching them one after another, and it makes a lot of sense as far as watching seasons that have returning players.

Yeah actually the best advice would be just to avoid s22 at all costs, Tom, other than that you're good

Actually idk, I've now turned off of Russell just a little bit the last 2 episodes. I'm starting the finale and I'm still not even sure who I've liked the most. There's plenty of people I liked this season but no one was that special so it's a tough one.

tbh don't avoid S22, I don't find it that bad but it's still worth a watch.

(It's really not worth a watch, unless as a last resort to the other superior seasons)

I thought the start of S22 was actually alright, but it got really ****ty around the merge. I watched half of Rice Wars, and then stopped and delayed watching for like two or three weeks

I am absolutely gobsmacked at Sue's speech. My jaw literally dropped at the moment she said she'd let the vultures have Kelly
That was an all-time shocking TV moment tbh. |

oops I missed on a Borneo discussion but yeah pretty much everything in American reality TV is a reaction to Richard Hatch winning

Survivor: Borneo:
Jenna Kelly Susan Colleen Sean Greg Ramona Sonja Joel Gervase Stacey Gretchen Richard Rudy BB Dirk Don't really hate anyone tbh. I'm not sure how to feel about it. It wasn't really what I expected - I mean I think I got wrong what Survivor was meant to be but I didn't like the domination by the Tagi tribe. It made it very predictable at times. Top2 moments: * When it was revealed that the Tagi tribe had picked off Greg when Richard said 'bye, bye Greg' in the confessional or words to that effect. So, so evil * Sue's flabberghasting jury speech. |

And Australian Outback is must-watch if only for the fact that literally half the cast comes back to play for a second or third time at different points in the franchise.

She is an icon. Definitely Borneo's most memorable.
I'll start Australia on Thursday. |

Yeah Sue's snakes and rats speech is probably the most iconic moment in Survivor history for most viewers who were watching at its Y2K peak, and it's what I'm talking about when I say just how instrumental Richard Hatch was to this show. It's funny that you say you didn't expect so much dominance from one tribe etc, when that was naturally one of the tamest seasons - the seasons that follow take the ball Hatch started rolling and run with it in so many different directions
Also most pre-merges tend to be entertaining at the least so I wouldn't give too much (/any) love to s22's |

Samoa... solid season... pretty good pre-merge and really good right after the merge. The season dulls out a bit towards the end though.
Oh and Russell redeemed himself in the finale after getting a little bit stale and/or annoying lately. ---(faves)--- 1. Jaison (Russell was eh if not cringey at times so as entertaining as he was overall, I think Jaison was more consistently my favorite, a really rootable sidekick character) 2. Russell Hantz 3. Natalie 4. Shambo (wacky Shambo added a lot to this season ) ---(liked)--- 5. Erik (I somewhat liked him during the season but I actually preferred him much more afterwards during TC's & just in hindsight) 6. Brett 7. Yasmin 8. Mick ---(ok)--- 9. John 10. Monica 11. Ashley ---(meh)--- 12. Kelly 13. Russell Swan 14. Marisa 15. Betsy 16. Mike 17. Laura (Super tough to rank. I put her here because I kiiinda didn't like her by the end but 12-16 didn't do anything at all for me so I could easily rank her ahead of them on a different day) ---(dislike)--- 18. Dave 19. Liz 20. Ben Russell sooo deserved to win but I'm still very happy with Natalie winning because she was so sweet. Although I also agree with Erik's little speech during the jury questioning... it's fair game for Russell to lose like that.
