I know I haven't posted in months but needed to talk about this with someone and I'm the only one out of my mates that still watches X Factor religiously!
I think it's interesting that OTY are being marketed down the cheesy pop route still. It's obviously working for them as they're still in, but, I think that in order for them to actually be seen as potential winners they need a change around in the way they are being marketed and need to prove to the public that they are serious artists and that they can actually make music. Saw this video shared on DS - something like this would definitely change things for them. The cheese thing has kept them in through the first half of the show, where I definitely think you need something different about you to stay in, but now that there's only 7 acts left I think it'd be wise for them to try something different and show what they are really capable of. I love them, but, after listening to them before they started the X Factor and following them a little bit online, they definitely didn't start off as they are being portrayed now and I really want to see them go back to that stripped back style that they started with and become 'cool' again. People might laugh but I could definitely see them win if they turn it around and surprise everyone [underdogs, first boy+girl group to do it etc - they'd definitely have a story behind them if they did go on to the final stages]. Just needed to get that out Hope you're all well! |

Yeah, I definitely think that the show are trying to make them appeal to children at the moment. In the final stages, though, I definitely think it's about being an all rounder and appealing to everyone. Little Mix started off with the same appeal and it wasn't really until 'Don't Let Go' that we saw that they were actually ready for a mature music market and that's when the general public got behind them. I think OTY are the only act left that can still have a 'moment' -
Stevie - not going to happen. Stereo Kicks - 'You are not alone' - happened too early, plus, there are too many of them and they'll never get away from that fact. Andrea - I don't think he can have a 'moment' because he's consistent every week. If no-one has a moment I definitely think he will win. Fleur - Again, another consistent performer who's moment is more of a wave of small ones, rather than a single one that will drum up a large amount of support at once. Ben - He could potentially have a moment, but I think we've seen the best of him already. Lauren - She's had her moment too early. Week 1 was arguably her best performance and since then she's tried a few different things but nothing has topped it. She's one of my favourites though and think that she has masses of potential, she just needs more confidence. But OTY, who have performed pretty consistently each week - but nothing 'amazing' or different yet, definitely have the chance to pull something out of the bag. The perfect time to do it will be in the next two weeks. |

They have become a bit like a parody of themselves the last few weeks, definitely need to go back to what they were originally about but it won't happen.

They just seem to have lost their edge through styling and song choice, if they can get it back I genuinely think that they could do well.

OTY are my favourite act and it does annoy me how they are marketing them towards cheesy pop/music for kids.

I love that version of viva forever. I hope they get to perform it at some point. I can see them performing it in a sing off. They definitely are going to find it hard getting out of that cheesy route because Louis the cheesiest man alive is their mentor. I hope they do get to show a different side to them. This weeks theme has the potential for them to do that bit no doubt Louis will pick crocodile rock or something equally daft for them
