I'm not a Vegetarian but Pescatarians pee me off big time.
My friend is one and we've argued about it many times. She says that killing a fish isn't the same as killing a cow - hypocritical much? |

Some veggies eat fish because there's a myth that fish don't feel pain. When I was a vegetarian and met vegans most of them would rant at me about not being vegan (like for real, vegans be crazy) so I doubt they think highly of pescatarians either.

My boyfriend decided his New Year's resolution was to become a pescetarian. I'm not saying I really enjoyed watching him crumble and eat a Big Mac after a fortnight but I'm also not not saying that.

I don't eat red meat, chicken, pork or any other land animal, but the reasons I don't are because of health/digestive issues.
I do still eat sea food because it is easily digested by my body and tastes good, but my seafood intake is rare. Nutritionally seafood is a packed with EFA's that don't easily degrade like meat if baked. Most human diets are low on good fatty acids, and red meat tends to throw off your bodies balance of good and bad fats. Vegetarian diets also do not supply enough EFA's unless through supplementation. Also, I am not against human consumption of meat or animals as we are obviously higher on the food chain, but I do not agree with the modernization of meat production, or the treatment of animals in mass farming. If I do eat seafood, I am as careful as I can be to avoid farmed fish. Lastly Vegans yes are generally vegans due to the treatment of animals, but rarely do the look at balancing their nutritional needs, and I have met many vegans but only a few who emplacement the lifestyle in a healthy manner. In my opinion, personal health needs to be a part of the equation when considering lifestyle choices involving nutritional intake. Vegans are following an ideology stemming from personal beliefs and that is commendable, but I do not think it's an ideal that is attainable without many other compromises.

Those who make the choice based on personal preference or dietary needs are fine, but I don't get the ones who claim to abstain from meat for ethical reasons, yet eat fish.
I'm not of the belief that those who eat meat don't care about animals, I know plenty who do, but many people are able to disassociate their meals from their origins and would absolutely not eat it if they had to kill the animal themselves, but my point is that "ethical" pescatarians have already chosen to abstain from certain foods, so why continue eating fish? Oh, and the ones who call themselves vegetarians annoy me. You're not a vegetarian, no matter how much you like the sound of the word. Last edited by Lostie!; 09-02-2015 at 10:04 AM. |

As a vegetarian (not a vegan) - for health rather than ethical reasons - it annoys me considerably that people assume I am ok with eating fish. I'm not!
A fish is not a vegetable! |

Yeah I know a woman who is Vegan. Doesn't take long in a conversation to get to her beliefs. I once asked her would you eat eggs if they came from Chickens you had in your back garden? She sort of paused a bit and then went on to say eating eggs is like eating a Chickens period. Which kinda stuck with me

Ask for the Chickens period next time and see what they say. Make it runny too.

not everyone who is vegan, veggie, or pescatarian do it for moral reasons. many people do it for health reasons, or just personal tastes.
