Hmmm, I was wondering if it will actually happen.
It is an awful lot of money to a girl that said 5 grand would change her life.
Good on her if she does it.

It's hardly broadcasting it if she was answering a question :/

She was answering a journalist's question in the full knowledge that it would be published on DS and therefore widely seen. It was broadcasting it.

And she had the option to not answer.

Why would she not answer? that sounds so stupid. And your thread title also "Aren't charity donations meant to be a private thing?" Why are they? Who made up that rule?

This thread is both depressing and desperate. If you spend your days trying to reach for reasons to hate some irrelevant ex-hm then you probably need to re-assess your priorities.

Trying to drag her over a donation to charity? That's just sad.

She was asked what she would do with her money, and she answered. What a total non-argument.

Nothing to do with us what she will do with her money anyway.

Where did I say it was a rule?

There are certain things polite people don't do. Boasting about charity is one of them. I think it was rude of the journalist to even ask her what she was going to do with the money.

She could have simply stated that she hadn't decided what to do with it yet. Or could have simply talked about property investment without the charity gloating narcissism.

Well how is it Chloe's fault the journalist asked?

Why would she lie? What she is doing is a good thing and it's beyond me why you're trying to clutch at straws to make her out to be a bad person.

Ah, as opposed to a moral rule. (Hey, what's that in the plughole? Ah, it's split hair...you can buy products to treat that, I believe.)

And exactly when did it become a social norm? I seem to recall that most telethons rely upon extremely public donations to their causes from celebs, businesses and organisations to spur on viewers to pick up the phone and pledge some money.

It goes right back to the bible.

Strange how the Bible is quoted so often by people with the least Christian attitudes.

Convenient how the rest of my post was ignored, presumably because it made a valid point which undermines the argument being put forward by the OP.

What is unchristian about my attitude?

I was just pointing out that even back 2000 years ago it was frowned upon to boast about giving to charity.

Don't use the bible as an excuse to be nasty.

I'm not being nasty. Simply pointing out that charity boasting is vulgar and narcissisistic.

If anything, I am being "real" and "telling it like it is" and chloe seemed to admire that in her BFF Helen.
