Perhaps Cecil got his name for a joke, or even an honour.....it was after all the name of the founder of Rhodesia.

I felt more about the killing of Cecil.

The migrant doesn't even have a name. And they are constantly referred to as the migrants, as if they're not exactly human.

..I would feel sadness for both, for different reasons...

..I think that a basic human ability is to feel compassion/empathy in something that is relatable within themselves...if a human or an animal is dead, then they are dead and they feel nothingness so the empathy largely comes from relating to emotions that will be with family/friends etc and relating to that and how we personally think we would feel/the devastation etc...so even if it was a 'bad' person like a serial killer etc, I may not feel any sense of loss as such for them but I still would feel empathy for their families who saw the best in them, whose worlds were shattered not only by their loved ones death but by the things they did in life as well ...

..with the lion, obviously it's a feeling of sadness that there are people who would strive (for pleasure/self gratification..)...to assist the reduction in species that should be protected/he was being protected but that didn't make a difference alas...but as 'bad' as humans can be, it's also humans who are good and trying to protect against these thing happening as much as they can....

The migrant story was one of the few things on the news that managed to actually really upset me. I Felt so bad for the migrants because I can imagin dying in those situations must be horrific. I was also disgusted by most people not even giving a **** about them (some cared more about the fact we were funding rescue missions etc) also how people and the media dehumanised them was awful.

With the lion I am more furious and not actually that sad for the loin. I'm furious that people feel so ****ing entitled that they think it's alright to do something like that and for no good reason also just for their entertainment.

Because some people value animal life. I fail to see how that's "****ing weird".

Hold a differing viewpoint by all means, but instantly resorting to insulting the believers of an opposite view is just juvenile and extremely ignorant.

Most people are obviously going to go with the lion, our media is nothing if not cruel to the plight of migrants and it doesn't surprise me to see that the person who died in Calais has yet to be named or even humanised in the media. It's hard to get upset about a tragedy when the victim is presented as nothing more than a statistic.

I don't think it has to be an either/or situation. It's hard to quantify outrage. Of course I feel a certain amount of sympathy for the migrant, although he did know what he was doing carried a risk and he went for it anyway. Had he stopped at the first safe country to give him refuge things might have worked out differently for him, he made a choice. But that doesn't mean I don't care that he died. The lion on the other hand was baited, terribly injured weith a crossbow bolt, tracked for forty hours and then killed with a gun... for fun.

Perfectly put Livia, I agree with your post.

I'm not saying either is the right or wrong choice. I'm just pointing out that it's not much of a choice to make with what we know due to bias in the media.

I think most people with half a brain know only too well what the British media is like. They suck the big one, generally.

To be fair, this dentist guy shouldn't even get bragging rights, he clearly wanted to hunt a lion with a crossbow and failed miserably so had to resort to a gun. I wonder what he would have gone for next had he failed to shoot it? I recon landmines or a small tactical missile.

Airstrike. To make sure. He'd probably get the coordinates wrong.
