Mel C has said the Spice Girls HAVE to mark 20 years since first releasing Wannabe by reuniting.

Melanie - who is originally from Rainhill and grew up in Widnes - revealed the girls would love to get back together next year.

And she reckoned London’s Hyde Park and Glastonbury would be perfect venues.

She said: “It’s 20 years since Wannabe and we have to celebrate it in some way.

“We would love to do something so fingers crossed.”

They had huge success with their reunion tour in December 2007 - but that was as a five piece.

Now Mel C is reportedly refusing to go ahead with a second comeback tour, which will mark the band's 20th anniversary in 2016, without fifth member Victoria Beckham.

According to reports in The Sun, Mel, 41, formerly known as Sporty Spice, is arguing that Posh Spice needs to rejoin Emma Bunton, Mel B and Geri Horner for the tour to be a success.



A source told the newspaper: 'To fulfill this Mel believes the band has to be the original five-piece and Victoria needs to be involved.'

And Mel B has now confirmed she is masterminding the Spice Girls' comeback for 2016, hinting the group are set to mark their 20th anniversary in style.

The 40-year-old singer-turned-presenter was quizzed about the possibility of a reunion on Alan Carr's New Year's Specstacular, and the crowd cheered with delight at Mel's positive reaction to the rumours.



'I think I’m the one putting all the rumours out there', she joked.

'To be serious, it is out twentieth anniversary this year and it would be rude not to celebrate so hopefully something will be happening pretty soon.'

Mel, formerly known as Scary Spice, refused to give away any details, however. When pressed further by Alan, she retorted, 'I can’t tell you what it is yet!'

The 2 Become 1 singer's candid confession comes after it was claimed that Mel C was refusing to go ahead with the reunion without Victoria, who is too busy with her fashion empire to make it work.

The Spice Girls originally agreed on an 'indefinite hiatus' in 1998 when Ginger Spice Geri decided to leave the group.
