Default Waiting in Supermarkets & bag packing

Do you mind waiting to be served when it's a bit busy or do you expect people to open more tills where possible and do you expect the person on the till to pack your bags for you?

Yeah, but then you're all blocking the way for everyone else with your traffic of bloody trolleys at the exit.

I prefer to pack my own bags, although if it means the supermarket would employ more people as bag packers, then I would be happy for them to do it. It's unreasonable to expect the cashier to do it though.

100% correct LT!
And don't forget the checkout person is always polite and friendly. Cost nowt to say hello, good morning and how are you etc then they even say enjoy your weekend bye etc All with a smile on their face. Not like the other big 4 supermarkets staff who are a miserable bunch of sods and clearly unhappy to be working there.
Aldi all the way!

I won't let anyone pack my bags for me either. The staff don't do it properly for me anyway.
Even worse when they have the cadets or other bag packers,I always contribute to their buckets but never let them pack.

I can get irritated in long queues but n the main, like you I chat to others or often get a smile listening to their conversations and even moreso when a couple are niggling at each other in front of me too.

most go on self service and don't scan the real exspensive items - but I suppose if the shops are not willing to pay for staff - they have to pay with theft.

Not really a supermarket but I was waiting in a store yesterday, stood in the queue for about 5 or 10 mins then it was my turn, and you know they sit things out at the till well I picked one up and put it in my basket as I walked over then the cashier turns round and says to me none too nicely 'What do you think you are doing? you cant just waltz in to be served when there's people behind you' who do you think you are I was like yeah I was standing in that queue, to which she replies 'No you weren't, you jumped the queue I saw you' I was getting a bit pissed off at this point but the old guy behind me said no that girl was standing in the queue with the rest of us, the cashier gave me a look of disgust and said oh well on you go then, so I sat my basket down and said 'you know what, keep it' and walked away

Not taking that **** of anyone when i'm just out shopping minding my own business tbh, had she said sorry I wouldn't have walked out tbh

Wow, you should of taken her name and reported her.

A couple of months ago I was in Asda looking for normal natural yoghurt but everything was low fat. I asked this assistant if he could help me locate what I was looking for. He was an old guy and none too happy that I'd interrupted his shelf packing. He huffed and puffed for a few minutes around the yoghurt before turning to me and saying, "If you can't find something in future, then remember this...Its probably because we DONT have it because we don't have unlimited space for stocking ridiculously FADDY stuff.

I went to customer service and asked them to find it but I mentioned how this guy had spoken to me. "Ah" said the assistant, "that will be Ralf. He's 82 and has to work because he doesn't get enough state pension but he's old school and we are having great difficulty training him...Sorry about that"

I left the store feeling awful that an 82 year old man had to stack shelves and worse still, I'd just guaranteed him a ticking off

I don't expect them to pack my shopping. I have hands so I can do it myself. My mum and sister said it's the laziest thing they have to do for people.

The only people they have no problem packing for is elderly people.

Anyone who hates our supermarkets should try the French ones. You will pay twice as much for the same good, your trolley will be half the size, you will never find an assistant on the shop floor and you will normally only find one or two cash desks open, regardless of how long the queues are. The assistant won't look at you or speak and will start serving the next customer before you have managed to get your stuff in bags. Oh and the bags are like nappy sacks and cost the equivalent of 10p each.
Ours supermarkets are heaven in comparison.

Oh I would have been so mad, I hate queue skippers so to be accused of being one when you're not would make me so mad. It happened to me one time in Venice getting on one of them water taxis, this Italian woman (hopefully it wasn't Vanessa ) accused me of skipping the queue when i hadn't, It nearly came to fisty cuffs I got so angry lol

I've learnt to be patient since I started work in a similar sort of area where customers are involved.

Same in Spain they never greet you and ask questions in very fast Spanish to put non Spainards on the back foot, they practically throw the stuff at you as well

We spend a lot of time in Spain and I always thought they're very helpful and friendly there, maybe it depends what part you go to?
