Default The F.O.I. Act Review

The Freedom Of Information Act is perhaps one of the most useful pieces of legislation passed as it holds governments to account which I believe should be a fundamental part of democratic process.

Labour deputy leader Tom Watson said the act should be extended to give people more rights to scrutinise public bodies.

The commission looking at the act has been criticised for lacking freedom of information campaigners as members.

The government has said there are concerns that "sensitive information" is being inadequately protected.

There are safeguards built into the act already and a guide to when information access can be refused https://www.cfoi.org.uk/pdf/foi_guide.pdf

So it can only be assumed that perhaps this government has already or wants to do something they wish to hide.

I'm all for protecting information that is deemed sensitive for our national security, but it must be proven to be so. Its all to easy for things to be hidden away. Otherwise, we are all entitled to know exactly what is going on.
