Default Scapegoat?

Is Winston clearly this years scapegoat?

Yes he has views that are offensive and could be (mostly are) seen as homophobic but he does say he is a Christian and those are his principles but claims he isn't homophobic etc.

And no I'm not defending him before anyone suggests it I just want to know other peoples opinions on whether he is this years scapegoat...

I think he's the obvious choice this year for CBB to get ratings and headlines.

I totally don't agree with his views, but that's clearly why they've put him in.

I don't think he can be scapegoated for his own words. He can deny he's homophobic all he wants but cracking "jokes" about gay people being sexual predators and saying adoption by same-sex couples is child abuse suggests otherwise.

If he's big enough to publicly say downright offensive things then he's big enough to be challenged on them.

Why do people take other people's opinions so seriously.

Take Donald Trump. He said let's have a no Muslim policy. Everybody in the world ignored him. It was only stupid UK who let's ban him from the UK. JUST IGNORE HIM.

Like Winston. Ignore him. People take far too much notice.

It's nuts.

this is the reason we have to sit through all the disclaimers before the show, people are so easily offended and outraged

How can I ignore him. He's on one of my fave TV shows.

Hopefully he gets evicted tonight so I don't have to see/hear the messy ****!

Exactly. If he's so desperate for the publicity his appearance on CBB will bring then he can answer all the negative questions that will be coming his way when he gets out.

I agree, even moreso when putting himself forward to be on a National reality show too.

Yes, because taking issue with bigotry is being "easily offended and outraged".

People really need to stop trivialising homophobia and acting like it's not a big deal.

It is a country of free speech where he is entitled to voice his opinions. He hasn't been homophobic in any of his actions in this BB that I am aware of, he hasn't broken any laws. All i see is completely over the top PC attitudes with fake outrage.

People like Winston use their 'Christian beliefs' as an excuse for their homophobia and bigotry. They take from the Bible whatever suits their agenda and conveniently ignore what doesn't.

What do you mean Reece?

The thread isn't about anything Winston has said, it's about his purpose on the show (from the producers pov)

I think it's completely obvious he was approached to do the show so he could bring some controversy, why else after knowing his past opinions would they invite him to be a housemate?

Maybe scapegoat wasn't the right word to use.

The whole point of BB or it used to be was to throw people in from different backgrounds and viewpoints, who knows if he was actually left in there he might learn a thing or two, if makes a sexist comment about women i. The house I dont give a flying fig and i wont be running to ofcom, but I would like to see that view challenged and see how it all plays out in the house. Its not that big a deal its one persons viewpoint in a house of 16

Does free speech not apply to us being critical of Winston then?

And feel free to provide evidence of this "fake" outrage. I'd love to know what makes you think that nobody could genuinely be angry at the things he says.

That was not in response to the OP I forgot to quote

I said elsewhere he's been put in for shock value which I think really is a new low for this show.

When I say fake outrage I mean people are looking to find something to dislike in the guy when really, he has just been a normal bloke. If we suppress everyone in to a tiny container and blast them the moment they even look like they may do something wrong, that's fake, and that's what i see happening here. By all means take issue and criticise if he actually does something that is genuinely homophobic, but I have seen nothing on this forum to suggest he actually has done anything wrong.
