If people see you have a £50 note on you, then you are a target to be robbed because they assume you are rich. Get rid of them, they are annoying for shops too.

Fifty pound notes are about as rare as cheque books. Can't remember when I last saw one.

Arista, couldn't you just use a bank card?

I don't really know what people's problem with £50's is... I think people are scared of them because they don't see many? Like... maybe people are more open to fraud because they aren't used to handling £50's and so can't spot a fake?

I take quite a lot of them, at least £2000 a week probably, I think mainly because Casinos pay them out and so they (as is the way with gamblers) make their way to us quite quickly . But all you can do, unless you have a big payout to a higher stakes customer who you know will take them, is put them straight out to the bank. "Normal folks" simply don't want them, because a lot of shops won't take them.

In fact, we probably take a good chunk of £50 notes just from random people off the street who come in asking if we'll swap them for £10s and £20s.

I quite like them, personally. They're very convenient if you have a £500+ gambler shuffling race to race. Less margin for error than paying out stacks of 20s.

We use €50 notes here all the time, most shops have one of them scanner thingys that they swipe notes under to see if they're fake or not
