Default Disney's 'Frozen' fans campaign for Elsa to be gay

Seen quite a few articles about this over the last few days or so. What are your thoughts? I have a link here for those who want to know more.

http://www.people.com/article/frozen...lsa-girlfriend

Do you think it's too soon?

I have a mixed opinion really. I think it should be up to the parents to tell their kids what being gay is, but I also think there should be more LGBT characters on TV. I'm not so sure about Elsa being gay, because to be totally honest, I can actually imagine that confusing so many young girls. There are so many young girls (and boys) out there who absolutely love Elsa and I think that if they saw Elsa all in love with a girl on TV, they would want to be like Elsa too. Which I guess there is nothing wrong with that, but I also think kids shouldn't be thinking about all this stuff either.

So yeah my opinion is really confusing and complicated, but when am I ever not confusing and complicated.

What are your thoughts? Should Elsa be gay in the Frozen sequel? (not that it will ever happen)

Definitely, I think it would've been helpful having a gay character to look up to when I was growing up

I think younger children need to see gay or straight characters. If they are older and they like the same gender and are confused about it, they wont be anymore. They will understand because of this.

Obviously some of the catty "best parents in the world who know everything about parenting" will march into facebook and twitter comments, ofcom or whatever they do for Disney, and spit their venom with irrelivent opinions

The thing is, those who complain are the minority. People will boycott but it won't have a huge impact as the vast majority would accept it.

I just feel that if they were to make her character gay then it would only be to generate more of a hype around the next film, and not because they genuinely think that it's the best thing to do with the character.

I feel that a new film based on the idea of a gay hero would be much better. I actually pitched an idea for one of my assignments, which was to turn the book 'The Princes and the Treasure' into a Disney film.

I doubt this will happen though, and there are always people who will complain about it. Disney is too big of a brand to take such a risk in my opinion.

Just seems like it'd be forced and pandering to the twitter SJW rather than educating children, who I imagine really don't care about what relationships are going on in animated films. Let them discover same sex relationships in their own time rather than shoving it in their faces.

Maybe they could make Cristoff transgendered then we can have a massive 'sister stole my boyfriend who is now a girlfriend' drama and please people who campaign for stuff like this even more. Infact...maybe elsa should come out as a demi-boy

She looks dreadful with her hair messed up so I imagine she would look worse with none

Skye had one of those singing elsa dolls and gavs daughter took the bobble out of the plait and I swear it looks like a scarecrow now and we can't fix it..it looks so bad and it upsets Skye so much we are considering buying another one just for the hair to be right

Elsa with a plait would have definitely made me realise how gay I was as a child. Meg from Hercules was bad enough but Elsa would have been something else

I'd be all for it. It might be confusing for a lot of children but that's only because they've been shielded from something that they shouldn't have been shielded from in the first place, so it wouldn't be the fault of Disney that they're confused. But once their parents explain it to them then problem solved. I don't see it as being an issue. I don't think it would EVER happen though (or at least not in the foreseeable future) because it would be such a huge risk financially. Maybe with a smaller film or TV show but not something as big as Frozen (especially the main character). But yeah, ideally there'd be gay characters and gay relationships shown on children's TV in the same way straight relationships are shown, since that's the reality they're growing up in, seems dumb to try and hide it from kids when all it's going to do is cause confusion when they grow up.

I think the influence of the American bible belt is big enough to stop it from happening tbh

Haven't seen Frozen so it's not like I have any attachment to the character but yes, gay and other minority characters should absolutely be a feature of children's television and literature.

The more children are exposed to these kinds of things early, the more likely it is that any prejudices fed down from their parents will be stopped in their tracks. The reason we live in such a heteronormative society is because nearly all kids TV shows and books focus on relationships between men and women, this doesn't reflect real life so neither should they. The more visibility they get, the less marginalised they become and obviously it gives non-heterosexual children growing up a sense of belonging and people to idolise.

I really can't see any justifiable argument against it.

I don't really think it would confuse most kids tbh..I doubt they would even ask. Kids don't tend to have the same prejudices that some adults have.

Not that I think it will happen anyway, but if it is something that will change at some point, and eventually we get people of different orientations being represented on children's TV, it will probably be because of the pressure from people like the twitter SJW and companies pandering to them, so if that's what it takes to change things then that's a good thing.

She was always a recluse, that didn't really have any feelings for male or female, she's a strong, independant woman.

It just seems like making a case for it for the sake of it, when we should have some proper LGBT prince and princesses with the characteristics.

I agree with this. Not every movie needs to contain or be centered around LGBT.

Maybe create a new character whose a lesbian.

I don't see the advantage of forcing it into an already existing franchise. Are they even making a sequel?

Yeah, I think I agree with this most tbh. I think we need to see it happen more on tv shows and small movies first, before we see this stuff in the big screen.

Hows about making Woody and Buzz suddenly discover their feelings for each other? If 'think of the children' is the excuse for frozen..I'm betting there are more adults than kids who watch the toy story movies

The cowgirl in Toy Story was clearly a raving lesbian.
