What I'm wondering now is... if someone went missing in a forest, and you knew there was a building within walkable radius... isn't that one of the FIRST places you would look if they weren't found in the immediate area of where they went missing?

he's probably traumatised by the whole thing, not putting him back with his parents would probably be worse for him right now

..yeah I agree, I think that him not going back to his parents now, would be the worst thing for him...however grim what they did may have been..and however strange it may sound, they're his comfort/safety and security..which is what he needs right now more than ever...with a close support as well for the whole family from social services...

Yes, if he knew they were coming back he should have stayed where he was but obviously when they drove off, he thought they really had left so he left too. I also suspect they left him for quite a bit longer than they claim to have left him before going back, not just a few minutes. If it was minutes he'd still have been able to hear them shouting for him.

to be fair it was pretty dumb/crazy for the kid to start walking through the woods, any sane/intelligent person would just start walking along the road towards home. why did he walk into the woods???
My Mom did this to my brother once, although it was in the suburbs in a =very populated town, but yea, he was being a complete nightmare and she left him by the side of the road, we drove away and she circled the block and came back... i think a lot of parents do this type of thing. my brother just stood there crying, and i definitely felt bad for him, but yea, sometimes parents just get pushed over the edge, so i can sympathize with the parents.
