A thought occurred to me. Just because the UK voted to leave the EU does this really mean that it needs to be impossible for them to formally collaborate with their European neighbors?
When South Carolina seceded from the USA in 1860 they didn't just want to be by themselves. They sought to get other states to join them in a confederacy where the federal government had far less power and states controlled their own affairs. Slavery issue aside this was partially due to the federal government being more powerful than they would like. And so they were the catalyst that created the Confederate States of America (The Civil War soon followed and the CSA lasted for just a few years). I think it might be a good idea to have some sort of union where representatives of the different countries can meet and see if they can tackle problems together. The concept is a great one but the EU is such a disaster where the answer to every problem is greater centralization of power. I think the concept of a Europe working together is great. This is why I had a thought that the UK could propose a Confederation of Europe based on democratic principles and invite other nations to leave the EU and join them. The primary reasons for its existence would be trade and peace. Good idea? Last edited by Liberty4eva; 04-07-2016 at 06:52 PM. |

The only way to make change is for every European country that is in the European union to have a referendum like we did and all vote to leave, and then there is always room for change and other ideas. But whilst Jean-Claude Juncker and the rest of the unelected buffoons are running the show, there is no chance of anything happening.

No let's look out to the whole wide world and stop limiting ourselves to the borders of Europe.

Just a non political trading agreement would be fine like the EEC was when we joined but the EU got power hungry and greedy and was bound to implode sometime. Now is just the beginning. When it does go to **** then all the countries will want to work something out.

I would like that too Smudgie, but first, I would like to see a decent Government which KNEW what the Feck it was doing and actually did it in a more honest and transparent manner.
