Ryan and Hughie's 'joke' engagement was inspired by Andy's 'real' engagement i am sure, but it was only a bit of light-hearted fun. And the sort of thing they would have done anyway, regardless of Andy.
If Andy had simply laughed it off and said 'oh you cheeky b------s!' then they would all have had a laugh together and that would be the end of it. But oh no, Andy refused to laugh it off. Why? Well at first he thought it could be a real engagement, and therefore it took the shine off of HIS engagement. So he went all hissy about his 'very sincere and serious' marriage limelight being stolen by two lads who had only just met. Then when he realised it was a joke, his ego wouldn't let him admit he had been 'pranked', so he decided to turn it into a massive moral issue about gay rights to try and save face and also to try and make hughie and ryan look as 'bad' as possible, punishing them for daring to laugh at something he took very seriously. Truth is, if Ed hadn't proposed, Andy would never have flown off the handle like that over hughie and ryan fooling around. It's only because he'd just got engaged that he demands everyone else takes him and his ego just as seriously as he does; joyless, self-righteous bloke that he is. I don't know why he bothered going on BB which is all about fun and mucking around. What did he expect? Newsnight? Oh yeah he wants 100k that's prob why he went on. |

He wasn't at all. You cannot throw the argument of gay men and woman being stoned and thrown off buildings....to two gay men. He made an absolute tit out of himself imo.

THe HM's (apart from Hughie and Ryan of course) didn't think he was that wrong or they'd have nominated him. I honestly think there were things we didn't see but they did that led Andy to react with such anger.

I believe that Hughie and Ryan having a joke about pretending to be engaged is no more than a hetrosexual couple pulling the same prank. Indeed, if anything, Hughie and Ryan's prank just goes to show how far gays rights have moved on, that they can actually joke about it. Plus, to be fair, they are a bit too young, and to a degree, oblivious as to the struggle for gays rights over the years. I think Andy was miffed because they (innocently) stole his moment.

..I think that it was as Hughie said and 'banter' but I do agree that it wasn't really appropriate/ill-timed/tactless etc and an air-time attention seeking thing as well...did they think about all of the prejudices against homosexuals and the wrongs done to them in their actions..?...well no, because we don't do we with actions like theirs...there is no thought is the point...(other than airtime..)...but inappropriate/ill-timed/tactless does not deserve what he laid at their door or tried to in talking about the most extremes of prejudices ..that was just pretty grim and cruel, I think...(and I also think that it was aimed intentionally in it's cruelty..)...I'm sure that he is very passionate about gay struggles, that's obviously genuine but I don't think that him bringing it into play when he did and in the way that he did was genuine at all tbh...and I also think that how he behaved was far more cruel, if we use that word than their behaviour, was is not justifying theirs either...their actions did not deserve what he said for me.... ..also he is allowed 'frailties' of course...but the thing is Jet, is that he doesn't seem to allow them so much in others..(I think..)..the reason for his words were quite personal at feeling mocked...which is understandable yeah ..but he had only recently pointed out that other housemates were acting more with resentment rather than for 'the good of the group and shopping budget', with the 2nd visits from partners...which was also an understandable thing...and we're a harsh crowd, Jet.....if you set yourself up like that in judgement of others and their feelings being more 'self' and resentment, then we're going to be at your door baby when you do something similar yourself...I think he was annoyed/hurt etc for himself and feeling mocked which I totally understand that many people would be but maybe learn something from that Andy, when you judge others..?... ..I also didn't like how he closed Hughie down by making his statement but then saying...'can we leave it at that'..and denying Hughie his voice when Hughie was obviously upset ..obviously, Hughie never likes to leave it at that so still tried to talk but Andy just spoke over him...for me, again that was saying that what he said was quite intentional in gameplan, that he had no intention of discussing it because why not take that opportunity to talk with Hughie and Ryan about something that he felt so passionate about..I mean as a journalist, his bag is to relay information etc..open up discussions, not to close them down...I was really proud of Hughie actually, the way he went up to the pebble room and asked Andy to come inside because they needed to talk....I wasn't sure if he was going to shout..'oi you..'..but he didn't, he really showed a maturity there...so t'was a shame that Andy wasn't interested in that communication because communication is very much listening as well...not just 'laying your facts' and then walking away and 'leaving it at that..'.... ...anyways, I think I said earlier..(I can't recall if I did..)...I don't think it was so much an OTT thing/reaction but more a very contrived one but a very cruel one to lay at the door because I'm not dismissing his performance to camera at the end....smiling and kissing his ring and talking his thoughts OUT LOUD to camera...something that is always designed for the viewer and for an audience and never genuine.... ..you have a good day btw..... |

I think that at the time of the fake ‘proposal’ Andy must have had a lot of turbulent emotions going around in his head. - In his noms this week he said that for a few weeks he’d felt ‘under siege’ from Hughie and it made him feel under attack. I think the reason some of the others were so supportive of him when it happened was because they had witnessed this and understood his frustration. He also said from early on Laytesha has made him feel not part of the group etc, misunderstood, and when he tries to explain his actions to her she isn’t receptive etc. So whatever we think, this is how he feels. All that must have hurt, and I don’t think Andy is good at expressing or admitting personal hurt to a person directly. He stiffens up and becomes controlled and aloof. He’d probably love to let rip like Hughie and get it all out but that isn’t him. He doesn’t like to show his vulnerabilities. So when Hughie and Ryan were mocking him (and I do think they planned it, I don’t think Hughie is as innocent as he lets on to be, he's a clever little game player imo) Andy cracked. All the personal hurts came together but as he always resists losing control with personal issues, all his frustration was directed into an issue that he knows how to get angry about in safety - gay rights. He unconsciously took the personal issue away from himself and into a wider sphere of hurt - and something he genuinely feels passionate about. I don't think he planned it in the least. I do the same myself - I can be seething about something but don't want to confront it so i divert onto something else. I don’t even know I’m doing that but my better half has made me realize I do. Women eh? They know us better than we know ourselves. Last edited by jet; 08-07-2016 at 12:46 PM. |

It was uncomfortable watching Andy evoke victims of brutality in order to further his progress in a show like Big Brother. I don't think I've seen anything creepier than when he tried to cry.
That said, it was good how it was presented. Andy was shown up as a typical spoilt, opportunistic narcissist who will happily exploit these horrors for selfish reasons, whilst the young lad from a travelling background showed greater maturity and eloquence and demonstrated a more sophisticated understanding of gay rights historically and globally |
