Default Can we have a spell checker please

Since people here have trouble spelling, and even lapse in to text messaging language, any chance of a spell checker?

In the interim, can I suggest a very old type of book, now in obscurity, called a dictionary?

Some people may have a problem spelling but some of us suffer from dyslexia

I agree. Some people do suffer learning disabilities. I don't find it a problem reading "incorrect" posts. There easy to figure out. Don't know why it's a problem for you, Sticks.

Whats wrong with spelling some things wrong?

It doesn't make the forum a dislikeable place.

If people want to bother about their spelling they will do.As long as they make the effort it's okay with me.

firefox has a built in spell checker, it highlights your words with a red squiggly line just like MS Word, all you have to do is right click the word underlined and it gives you options.. plus everyone should be using firefox anyways

Agree!

The other day in one of my lectures, the tutor was using IE to show us a website, and IE crashed... everyone in attendance was a computing student, and I imagine 99% Firefox users and there was a gigantic laugh when it happened

I thought you had done it on purpose! By the way, the SSPP is the "Sticks Spelling Police Patrol" unit that roams these pages.

Serves him right for being so pathetic. Some of the people that post here are just kids and can be like 12 years old, and maybe cannot spell that well. Other times, people make typo errors. I know I have. Blame me for ruining your thread Sticks!!!!

This was news to me, and I have now installed the appropriate add on.

If people have dyslexia, then a spell checker utility will help, but not everyone has that condition here. Remembering my education, by the age of 12 we were expected to spell words correctly and if in doubt look them up. According to

this report there was concern about spelling amongst 11 year olds. Using the excuse that one is only 12 just does not wash.

You also overlooked my other observation about the use of text message speak, which is against forum rules.

Ok Sticks, so you had a good education, lar-de-dar!

This isn't school though. Its not life or death if I spell properly 'proparly' for example. Its not going to kill anyone, and its not even noticeable.

Yes, text message speak is against the rules, but its not a big deal. That person will get warned, or they should. No need to demean everyone by installing a spell checker.
