Its a well known fact that trade unions and the Tory's aren't best mates so what's the news here?
As someone who regularly pays over the top to commute on late overcrowded trains, I have little sympathy for Southern rail and their inexcusable incompetence.

Pretty much what I came on to say. The Labour Party is funded by the bloody unions. Anyone who thinks these strikes aren't political is dreaming.

Ah well, that's what comes of backing a loser like Mr. Corbyn.
No way he can topple the government, in fact Labour are only going in one direction and it isn't upward, so the unions try to intervene and bring them down, nothing new about it, all been done before. |

Remembering Kerry

He is not the only one who would like to bring this heartless shower down.
However I disagree with strikes for striking sake and there were likely plenty Conservatives supporters cheering the Unions on when they brought down the Labour govt. in 1979. What mystifies me is that some criticism is not levelled equally at the other side. I can fully understand the Crown Post office workers grievance but not the time they chose to strike. As to the rail network particularly where it is hitting now, those who run that are greedy and wasteful, they have not done a thing about the problems, which were there long before strike action, or get forced to do so either by the govt. I would have agreed with the Thatcher govts Union changes, however there are responsible Unions who do their very best for the workers under their care. So to likely brand all Unions as bad is ridiculous. As is moaning at the Unions financing Labour too, of course they do, there would not have been a Labour party without the Unions and while that may infuriate the extreme hardline Conservative MPs and any hardline Conservative supporters, who would probably like to see the Unions done away with completely. Hopefully that will never happen. Unions bankroll Labour and big businesses and the rich bankroll the Conservatives, odd how few Conservatives seem to choose to moan at that however. Employers and Unions and workers, all need to work together, sadly what is happening along with other undesirable prejudices across parts of the UK now, is also intolerance and no will to compromise any more. Easy to attack Unions and strikers when they take action, just as it is easy to only and strongly dismiss any grievances workers may genuinely have from a hardline view anyone may hold. While ignoring the failures of both govt. and Employers and those entrusted with providing good, safe and efficient services.. |

I think it's an absolute disgrace and yet another cynical set of actions based on the fact that they think the electorate are a bunch of stupid morons. Here's a clue we aren't stupid and we will remember. That's it Labour make yourselves unelectorable for another 30 years.

Remember Orgreave?... It is actions like this that stick in the minds of many. Having a rosy perception of how this government has historically dealt with unions and the workforce of industry historically is not the reality for many, and I respect them.

You presumed I was ok with the sale of cluster bombs under new labour?... If you don't support this govt in that then I wouldn't have thought the call to have them brought down was all that surprising.

I have never voted Tory actually, in the past I've regularly voted Lib Dem (never again after students and the stance on Brexit) and a couple of times in the past I've even voted Labour. (I can't see that happening again). People don't fit in boxes, I certainly don't and just because we disagree doesn't mean I support the Tories. Having lived through the Thatcher years and New Labour I can tell you that so far the current government isn't the worse you could have so all the whinging about how terrible they are is a bit of a mystery to me. Try buying your first house during interest rates of 15%.

I would rather be paying 15% on £30K three bed terrace in London than 1% on that same 300k two bed terrace in the here and we shouldn't forget that back then, people only borrowed on 2.5 x salary and not 5 x salary as they do today.
