This is a very interesting theory on how society works.
Free markets, capitalism etc. How only a tiny percentage of the population create most of the wealth. For instance if a company employs say ten thousand people then only 100 of those people will create half the profit/productivity/wealth etc. This is a general rule throughout society as a whole. Also the "yoyo" effect of money. Give the rich money and they will create a wealthy society but give the poor money and where does is go? Back up to the rich.It always ends up back in their hands. Rich business entrepreneurs will use money to create more money. The poor will get new nails, hair extensions and huge telly's and the rich get the money back. This is longish but interesting What are TIBB's thoughts? Do you think this guy is wrong and why? |

Very interesting video. I watched from start to finish and although I disagree with some of his analogies, his intelligence, wit and style are quite mesmerizing.
He does have a tendency to airbrush the left as a whole entity which is a shame. I consider myself a left thinker and yet I agree with 'noblesse oblige'. I certainly don't believe the wealthy somehow owe something to poor.

Debt is encouraged in this country, to buy things you don't need with money you have not got to impress people you don't like.
The rich spend money on crap just like the poor, someone spent 57 and a half million on a diamond, So called intelligent people make lots of money and spend it on items that have been priced so high that it makes them feel special by buying it when in fact they are being fleeced by another intelligent person, and the cycle continues. |

You get nothing on your savings in the bank so rich people invest in things of great value, diamonds are up there at the top. Lighter than the same spent on gold or art. I should be so lucky |

No point in being the richest person in the cemetery, does it make you a better person for giving that amount of money for a pretty stone? Put that money into making the world a better place for everyone. |

The diamond could be security for family down the generations. Being rich certainly does not make you a better person than anyone with less wealth. Roof over your head, food on the table, warmth in the winter, debt free surrounded by people you love is worth more than all the money in the world. Good health would be the cherry on the top. |

The rich will get away with what they can and the poor will do the same. We can't blame the rich for being rich or the poor for being poor but we can blame corrupt governments and this was something not mentioned in his talk.

When he said that the richest people in the poorest countries have 90 percent less than the poorest people in the richest countries, he's incorrect. In some countries, regardless of poverty, a person will still be included and accepted.
We can't just look at riches as material gain. The notion of the rich and the poor is wider than our bank accounts. Social exclusion is a big thing in the western world and if you are socially excluded you not only have a massive disadvantage, you carry that stigma. In poorer countries, people with relative poverty will still exclude those with absolute poverty but absolute poverty and therefore social exclusion is far less common because families are larger and there is more associational philanthropy from neighbours. Whilst money has to have a relationship with wealth, we don't need to be wealthy to be rich.

Isn't this just more bull**** trickle-down theory that has been proven time and again to simply not work?
