He sings a traditional genre of Portuguese music called Fado, all songs in that genre are about heartbreak and melancholy, literally all of them, so it's not "just another love song". He wasn't saying in the speech that his music was real music, he was talking about traditional genres. He clarified on Portuguese TV literally five minutes after the contest ended.

oh god, portuguese are so annoying.

this is like when they try and tell you the word "saudades" means nothing in english, and we could never understand the true deepness of it. get over yourselves.

Wonderful. Glad he has won and the final performance with his sister was legendary.
I'm also happy to see Norway in the top ten against all odds.

It was a sign of respect and appreciation to his sister which had a huge part in his participation, there was nothing cynical about it - for him, it was his victory as much as it was his sister's. And his speech about "fireworks is not music" was brilliant, and the fact that his song won over many of the usual Eurovision mumbo-jambo cliches, says it all. He didn't say that song X or Y was rubbish, he said that he believes in a meaningful music, and he's absolutely entitled to think so. I don't understand people being so defensive about it, when people use to slam its surreal performances without batting an eye. There's a serious garbage in the Eurovision, and someone had the courage to call a spade a spade. People knew what they were voting for, they knew what it means and they knew the underlying message of a song and a performance like this winning ESC - and they supported it by voting it as the winner. He just stated the obvious meaning of this victory. I hope it means more decent songs in the competition and less circus acts.

The guys an arsehole quite frankly, telling us his was the only 'real' music last night.

Real boring nothing more imo, if all Eurovision was and ever will be in the future is this boring I'll stop watching. I want a bit of crazy and pretty fireworks
