Default Is it Racist 4: Jesus Sausage Roll, Our Lord and Savoury

Is THIS racist?

Quote:
Greggs the bakers has apologised for swapping Jesus for a sausage roll in a promotional image for its advent calendar.
It shows a nativity scene with three wise men gathered around a pastry instead of Christ.
Christian Twitter users said the advert was disrespectful to their religion.
"I'm glad Christians kicked off and Greggs apologised," wrote one Twitter user. "No other religion would stand for that nonsense."
Other people joined in calls for organisations to "respect all faiths equally".

Greggs has apologised for the image, saying it hadn't planned to upset anyone.

"We're really sorry to have caused any offence, this was never our intention," the firm said in a statement.
The image was issued to promote a £24 advent calendar which has vouchers to spend in its stores behind each door.
The offending snack:

Spoiler:

OK so, obviously, this is not racist as sausage rolls are not currently recognized as a racial group. But, is it acceptable? Should there be limits on what companies can and can't use to advertise their products? Is it all just a bit of festive fun, or should Christians be offended by the comparison of their messiah to a "cheap meat treat" from a bakery chain?

It's a bloody odd concept for any advertising exec to even come up with tbh.

But, Christmas advertising has always been packed with silly stuff like this. I have to wonder why the fuss now.

well if it were a certain other religion heads would roll pardon the pun or Greggs headquarters would be stormed and at least one advertising exec would lose their life it is a bit insensitive in the current climate, I don't think it's racist just a bit stupid

The Christian religion can be made fun of and undermined and nobody gets all worked up over it...yet if you don't agree with certain aspects of another religion and don't get in a lather over their perceived slights you are called a racist. Every religion but our own is above poking fun at.
Very peculiar. I've only really noticed it as so one - way on this forum.

I think any and all religions are not above mockery. It is hypocritical and abit distasteful though when papers wouldn’t even publish the Danish cartoons with Mohamed jokes in.
Be that for fear of offending muslims or fear for their safety certain religions shouldn’t be taboo to mock while others are fair game.
One rule for all.
I could imagine muslims getting all triggered with a piece of pork masquerading as Mohamed.

Why would I? Disrespecting any religion isn't something I would personally think of doing.

I dont believe this was accidental tbh. I think companies are starting to work out that bad publicity and an apology works better than a good ad campaign.

Like, if they truly believed this was a good ad campaign, they would have made it look way better.

i don't have a problem with it, i think it's quite funny. Why does everything have to be taken so seriously, why can't people just have a bit of fun.

If people are confident in their religion, why do they care if someone makes fun out of it or finds something amusing in it. Surely its what religion means to an individual, not what it means to anyone else. My feeling is that religion is a very personal thing, so believe what you want to believe and let everyone else do the same. I feel all this outrage stems from times when religion was forced upon the world and has no place in today's society.

New information has come to light on this that suggests the scene is not as odd as people first assumed, and that there might actually be some justification in the bible for this.

In a somewhat bizarre twist, eagle-eyed commentators have noticed a hidden message in the Bible.

Take the words, "Lord Jesus" and say them out loud backwards, and the truth is revealed.

Susej'd Rol

Thats right. "Sausaged Roll", more commonly known as a "sausage roll". There is at least some likelihood that this has been the plan all along, and the bakery chain may even have had a hand in creating bible lore for this very ad.

NO religion should get "respect"

In fact it should be ridiculed

ALL of them

I agree with this,I am religious to a point ,but would never force my beliefs on anyone else,It's just a good job they didn't catoonize it,otherwise they would have been shot. !! Good job most of us can see it for the 'joke' it was supposed to be.

I don't mind it, it's fine what I don't like is the hypocrisy because you know an ad like this would never get out of the boardroom about some other religions, and I am not talking just Islam

also if Christmas is no longer about religion, it isn't very apt is it

And yet, no one believed me about the Dove ad a month ago.

But yes. Of course they do it on purpose. To get an ad in the paper as advertising costs a fortune. Getting an ad in the paper as "news" is 100% free.
