Get a stopover at Dubai for several hours, but won’t get there until about midnight - any suggestions for places to go if leave airport at that time.

I think I responded to this on your thread, at midnight I don't really know tbf, I thought you were landing earlier. Not sure much would be open at that hour, it is not a party city...

Yes the time is a pain, but my son is keen to go out of the airport to see what is there and to be able to say he has been to Dubai. Would like to see a bit of it myself, even at that ungodly hour.

Yeah, definitely. It's good girls aren't bound by what's a girl job/boys job anymore, and the same for guys really. I was listening to my son(he's 13) talk to his friend the other day when I was driving them to Karate, they've both just started secondary school this year so for the first year they do all the subjects and then next year they have to pick the ones they want to continue with for Juniour cert (which is like your GCSEs) So my son asked his friend which ones he was keeping on and the friend said Home Ec and my son said yeah me too and i was thinking how far we've come since I was in school, i think about 3 boys in my whole year did Home Ec because it was a "girls subject" they don't even think like that now, it's great to see

I hated Home economics - would have preferred something more DIY orientated - might be better at it now! I think it’s a fallacy how many men try to suggest women love doing it. - I don’t.

I like good meals and a clean house but hate actually doing the donkey work. I usually just find these things a chore. Usually OK once I get started but hate the thought of it. It’s good how it’s not considered a female thing the way it used to be.

I took it two times, one when I went to the states last year, and another one when I went to Dubai...they are extremely comfortable, especially when the cabin is empty and the flight is a red-eye...especially my return trip from Dubai, but when it gets crowded, it becomes really stuffy and cramped, that is if you take economy class...

Comfortable if you have a whole row to yourself, you can just lie down, otherwise, they’re just as uncomfortable as any other plane

Thanks Eddie. Yes I am going economy and was a bit concerned about the leg room and having enough comfort to sleep as I want to try and sleep at the right times to align with the time difference of my destination to attempt to minimise jet lag.

From what you say I will have to hope the flight isn’t too crowded, but probably will be.

Top bird. I love it when I see females in roles that used to be mail-dominated.

any plane is comfortable when you move out of the economy cabin. If you can't do that, it doesn't matter how much space you have, if you are sitting next to the passengers from hell on a long flight .... its a nightmare

Your welcome, hope the cabin's not too crowded, are you going on a business trip or a vacation?

How many is several? The problem is, the check-in time is 2 hours prior to the flight. I probably wouldn't leave Dubai airport if it was less than five hours. Dubai airport is lovely though. Lots of good shops and restaurants to entertain you.

I've been on a long-haul flight on both Airbus and Dreamliner. If you've been on Dreamliner, they are very similar planes. I think Airbus may be slightly bigger. Legroom isn't a problem unless you are particularly tall. They do have an upgrade option where you can buy a seat with leg recliners but they do get snapped up pretty quickly.

As for jet-lag. I've done shift work and if you're not careful, can make you feel permanently jet-lagged. When moving from days to nights you need to learn to tune your body clock accordingly. You're going to be moving forward in time so jet lag is more likely because your days are shorter, your bedtime is earlier. If you are really dedicated to avoiding jet lag, adjust your sleeping hours to 'early to bed', 'early to rise', a few days before your flight. Don't worry about the return flight, your body adjusts much better when you're hours are turning back and your flying west.

Have fun. Are you going to Goa?

Thanks for that. Am going to Australia. The stop-over at Dubai is 9 hours. Don’t want to go far from the airport - is there anything we could do nearby for a few hours do you know - somewhere to eat perhaps.

The leg room sounds good as not too tall. My main concern is jet lag but I have been reading up about it and know your advice is sound. I read that if I can sleep on the plane to fit in with the time zones in Australia, arrive early morning, that would help.
