Are these all the same people who are supposed to be tolerant of all sorts, I don't know him so will judge him from what I see,

Tolerant to those who deserve it.

It's like trying to back up Kim Jong-Un if he was announced to be going it. Albeit an extreme example, we collectively disalike him due to his history in the media.
