Anyone else seen this?

It's probably one of the best things I've seen in a while. A true story, too. The leading man was actually the man who was stalked. It's his own story. Crazy.

The story follows the writer and performer Richard Gadd's warped relationship with his female stalker and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deep, dark buried trauma.

The manner that everything is dealt with (and there's a lot of VERY sensitive and quite dark themes) is perfect.

…ahhhhh, I was looking at this to watch a few days ago and then chose something lighter at the time…it did appeal to me, though….because it is a true story…although, not one that I was familiar with…I’ll watch it soon on your recommendation, LaLa…

Yep. The messages that we see on screen throughout the show are real, legitimate messages sent to him by the stalker too.

Jessica Gunning, the actress who plays Martha, is fantastic.

Especially considering that it has a very different feel to Fallout.

Yeah I just read the parental guide on IMDB, it sounds too extreme & grim . No doubt they'll probably make them watch it on Gogglebox aswell like they did with saltburn .

It’s extreme yes but it’s an accurate portrayal of stalking and everything that comes with it as it’s a true story from the direct experience of the creator and star of the show.

Yet somehow it still feels very delicate and sympathetic at times.

It’s really fantastic.

…I just binge watched this…it’s really a very harrowing story and I think that I’ll be gathering my thoughts together for quite a while …it’s something that will stay awhile, I think…

…obviously Martha/the stalking plot was a terrifying thing to have happened to him…but I think that also highlighted so much his own self loathing and his own mental struggles with many aspects of his life and how ‘broken’ he was, really…so very sad when he said that Martha made him feel like he was the person he had wanted to be…or words similar…

It’s a phenomenal show. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Deals with a lot of taboos too. Incredible.

…it does deal with a lot but it also kind of just ‘leaves you there’ as well with so much that it doesn’t deal with….I mean…

…with Martha, this was obviously nowhere near the first time and I know that she had her sentence and a restraining order for many years etc…?…but surely that would just indicate that her obsession would just become someone else when she was released from prison, which wouldn’t have been very long served of the sentence at all…for someone who was displaying such repeat behaviour, where was the help that she was getting because she had such outbursts of violence as well…?….with him, one of the things that was noticeable was that he never did fear her though and that’s something that can’t be applied to the reverse of male stalkers with females…and that’s something that’s been very high profile recently with a few cases…he was also ‘addicted to’ and obsessed with her, wasn’t he…?….and it all stemmed from his own self loathing and poor mental health….that whole thing with his dad and his dad’s reveal was so heartbreaking because it seemed to create that self loathing….his dad hadn’t even been able to hug him up until that point because of his own traumas ….and as he said, Martha made him feel as though he was the person that he wanted to be…lots of layers to it all and lots of thoughts that stay…

…it’s realising that it’s as much about mental illness and self loathing as it is about stalking….I wonder how that would have all displayed and evolved, had he never encountered Martha…because that was all still there, regardless…

I think his is a very honest depiction to the complicated and seemingly illogical reactions to being a victim of sexual abuse. It's very uncomfortable to watch but it's a story that's hard to deal with that bare and grittily truthful because in a way it can make the victim look bad or less of a victim in some peoples eyes

…I won’t say any more specifics, even in spoilers…but all I’ll say is that I was left with lots of thoughts in lots of different directions…it really does provoke thinking…and maybe taking a while to think about as well because you can keep thinking of something else…/…another aspect…
