I hope it wins the SAG for cast. Definitely the best cast this year.

This is exciting, new unseen scenes from the movie were shown at QT's theatre last night - fuelling the fire even more of the much-anticipated 4 hour cut:

Quote:
So last night there was a trailer show at the New Beverly theatre off La Brea and it was a blast. The admission was free and it was pretty much a 2 hour mash up of trailers, 70s ads, and a Tom and Jerry short. But the best thing was in between all that stuff, they showed a few never before seen footage of OUATIH! There were 3 that I remember and I'm excited to share the details with fellow fans.

1st scene was another Hullabaloo song performed by Leonardo's Rick Dalton. This song wasn't as catchy as "Green Door", and he performed it as Jake Cahill, in his cowboy outfit.

2nd scene was Margot's Sharon Tate dancing to a rad tune looking particulary groovy with a black and white lined background. I recall a shot of this in the teaser trailer for the film. This scene was my favorite of the 3 and was really fun to watch. Austin Powers vibes. Lasted a solid 3 minutes.

The last scene started off with Cliff Booth hanging out on the roof of his trailer, watching an old film and drinking beer. He remarks about a Hollywood actress [Raquel Welch - he's watching "The Lady in Cement" which is advertised on the drive-in's billboard on his drive back to his trailer from Rick's house] to Brandi before heading back inside his trailer.

The scene then shifts to Sharon, Jay Sebring and a few friends at the Original Tommys location on Rampart. While ordering, Sharon doesn't want chili on her burger and Jay insists, playfully telling her not to embarrass him. The camera moves to the parking lot and you can see that Tommy's is more than just any burger place. It is a very popular hang out location for Mexican Americans of that era. You see lowriders, locals smoking dope, and even a few knuckleheads starting a fight. All this in the parking lot of this infamous LA burger joint. I loved this scene and i really wish it made the cut. It was so authentic LA. and felt alive.

Congratulations to Brad Pitt, who has deservedly won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Cliff Booth!

Hopefully there's some more awards coming this way tonight!

So pleased at the two Oscar wins, and for the two categories I wanted most too - Brad & production! Brilliant.

I think this officially ends the OUATIH hype for now, unless the Netflix "four part series" rumours are to be believed.

It's been fun!

Quentin Tarantino set to release ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ novel in 2021
Quote:

A non-fiction book called 'Cinema Speculation' is also on the way as part of a two-book deal with HarperCollins.

Quentin Tarantino has signed a new two-book deal, which includes a novel of his 2019 film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Back in April, Tarantino hinted at the prospect of a novel based on the film, which starred Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Now, a new book deal with HarperCollins has been confirmed, as Deadline reports. Alongside the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood novel, which will come out in 2021, Tarantino will also release a non-fiction book called Cinema Speculation, which Deadline describes as “a deep dive into the movies of the 1970’s, a rich mix of essays, reviews, personal writing, and tantalising ‘what if’s’, from one of cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers, and its most devoted fan.”

In a statement about the new deal, Tarantino said: “In the seventies movie novelisations were the first adult books I grew up reading. And to this day I have a tremendous amount of affection for the genre.

“So as a movie-novelisation aficionado, I’m proud to announce Once Upon A Time In Hollywood my contribution to this often marginalised, yet beloved sub-genre in literature. I’m also thrilled to further explore my characters and their world in a literary endeavor that can (hopefully) sit alongside its cinematic counterpart.”

“Quentin Tarantino’s literary talents have been in plain sight since his first scripts,” HarperCollins VP Noah Eaker added. “But to see how skillfully he endows his characters with life on the page and how he constantly takes a reader by surprise, even one who knows the movie by heart, is to see a master storyteller trying on a new form and making it his own.”

A five-star NME review of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood called the film “Tarantino’s most satisfying work in decades,” adding: “It would be wrong to declare OUAT…IH to be quite so perfectly formed as Pulp Fiction, but there is no doubt that this is his most well-rounded and satisfying work since.

“The adrenaline rush of the final third resembles all that is special about Tarantino – audacious, brazen and impossibly thrilling.”

QT has given info on the novel - says it's not just a basic "novelized screenplay".

Quote:
Quentin Tarantino teased his upcoming “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” novel for the first time during an appearance on the “Pure Cinema Podcast” (via The Wrap), touting the book as more than a typical novelization of his Oscar-winning movie. According to Tarantino, the “Hollywood” novel is more of a “complete rethinking” of the movie than a book that just reprints the screenplay and adds in all the deleted scenes that Tarantino cut out of the theatrical release.

“It’s not just me taking the screenplay and then breaking it down in a novelistic form. I retold the story as a novel,” Tarantino said. “So it’s not like, ‘Oh, OK, well he obviously had a few scenes left over, so he just took the screenplay and novelized it and threw in a few extra scenes.’ It was a complete rethinking of the entire story and not just a rethinking as far as throwing some scenes that were left out of the editing room. But I did so much research.”

Tarantino continued, “I was writing it for five years, so there was so much stuff that I wrote and I explored that I never even typed up, because there was no way it was going to make the movie, but it was edification, it made me understand the characters, it made me learn things about them…I’m trying to tell a novelistic version of these characters. If the book existed first, then the movie would be me making a movie out of that material. You know how you take an unwieldy novel and try to turn it into a movie? Well, to me, the movie is that. This is the unwieldy version of the movie.”

One character the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” novel will flesh out more fully than the movie did is stuntman Cliff Booth, played in the film by Brad Pitt in a performance that won him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

In the movie, Cliff is a real enigma, you’re kind of like, what’s this guy’s deal?” Tarantino said. “And one of the things in the book is, there’s these isolated chapters that tell you, like, this whole chapter will be about Cliff’s past. It goes back in time to tell you about Cliff at this point in time. And then you go further on with the normal run of the story and there’s another chapter that goes back in time and tells you about Cliff’s past. And every isolated chapter that’s just about Cliff’s past is like a weird little pulp novel unto itself starring Cliff.

Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” novel is now available for preorder. The book goes on sale June 29.
