Humans aren't forced into life threatening situations. They have a choice.

Humans don't need to enter life threatening situations to pay the bills, so human jobs aren't comparable. Horses/animals don't need to "work" to survive.

But you know that.

My question is do you think it's cruel? If not why ? needless to say,I do, and I am surprised so many people partake in it and condone it.That horse must have been in complete agony.

What about showjumping

Showjumping might not seem cruel but the horse are put thought hours of training

I bet on football not horse

Is a horse there voluntarily? Do horses get paid in anything other than food and shelter? No?

Then a human in that situation would not be considered to have a job... Instead, that would be slavery.

What you get up to at the weekends is your own business Alf, but most people do NOT want to be slaves.

..that poor horse, Kaz..Sandsend....heartbreaking and also thinking of how long the ecruitiating pain he endured would have been before he was ‘put down’...also the first sentence of that article being...’he had, had a decent chance of winning’...that being more the prime thing..?...awful...in general, horses and meant to be mounted with a rider and bear that weight, surely...because if they were, then why would a wild horse in a natural habitat have to be ‘tamed’ in order to be ridden...or ‘broken’ as it’s referred to also...animals are not meant to be or feel ‘broken’...and especially not for a sport, a money making form of entertainment as horse racing is...we have progressed so much in ‘human time on earth’...surely we don’t have to ‘break living creatures’, to fulfill entertainment in the sporting/competitive world...we must have advanced beyond that ...these horses are bred specifically for, so just wouldn’t be../..wouldn’t have existence if horse racing was not a thing...so there’s that as well, there will be no option of a ‘different life’ for them, because they just wouldn’t be, I assume...but sadly that’s (for me..)..the better option...

To be honest Ammi,I would rather see the breed die out so they dont have to go through this sort of thing,I would rather not see them at all than to see them suffer.

You probably wouldn't if you had to jump them ,with someone kneeing you in the nether regions and beating you.

On balance, i don't think horse racing is cruel because horses love to run. What is cruel, is doing things like beating them to run faster, or mistreating them in the name of sport. Putting them in danger or too much stress with large fences etc, I also think is incorrect.

So race them by all means, but look after them and treat them with respect.

I agree. It's often said 'well they wouldn't be alive in the first place if it wasn't for horse racing' but I doubt those people would be in favour of breeding humans for sport and justifying it by saying 'well those humans wouldn't be alive if we didn't'.

...yeah, like impregnating to create ‘human slaves’...but you wouldn’t have the pleasure of being a slave for your whole life if we hadn’t created youand we feed and groom you as well so hush down......only there isn’t even any ‘purpose’ to it, other than sport../...entertainment ...and money making...

Just as a side thought to this terrifying distopian idea: d'you think if we DID specifically breed and train humans for sport, they would end up totally smashing world records? Like would the ones bred for speed be running the 100m in like 6 seconds? And would we have Olympic swimmers with massive flipper feet due to selective breeding? . I mean it's horrifying but... Sort of fascinating...

Like I've always said that I'd totally watch an Olympics where there were no bans on performance enhancing drugs. Just to see what would happen
