Default Man Gropes American Tourist in Ireland. He Messed With The Wrong Girl.

Hey, I've had those urges. I don't really blame her for hitting back... it's very scary when it happens and so easy to snap in those situations. Worst one for me was when it happened at the beach and I was out in the water... some guy came up and my knee-jerk reaction was to hit back... not sure if that helped or not.

Man Gropes Tourist, Telling Her She 'Liked It' Because She’s 'American.' He Messed With The Wrong Girl.

While traveling alone in Dublin, Ireland last month, a Colorado woman was harassed and physically assaulted on the street by a man who tauntingly told her she probably "liked it" because she's an "American."

Yeah, the assailant messed with the wrong girl. Leanna Carr, 26, happens to be a powerlifter and a strength coach, and when she felt threatened by the man, she reacted by punching him right in the kisser.

Carr was catching a bus to Galway when she felt a man grab her rear end "aggressively and intentionally." The assaulter was reportedly laughing "hysterically" when she turned around to see who attacked her. "You're an American, you probably liked it," he whispered to her. That was enough for Carr to clench her fist and punch the man.

"I wasn't really thinking," she told Fox News. "I was angry and in the moment. He wasn't taking me seriously."

"If this had happened in the past, I probably would have just let him get away with it," explained Carr. "But this time, my reaction was to defend myself. So I hit him."

Carr posted a photo of her bruised knuckles to Twitter on April 21, explaining the incident. "While walking down the street in Dublin earlier this week, a man grabbed my butt. He proceeded to laugh hysterically and said 'you’re an American, you probably liked it,'" she captioned the photo. "Apparently traveling solo has made me a better person bc my first reaction was to punch him in the face."

After the punch, the situation become momentarily hostile; the man began cursing at Carr and getting in her face. "For a second, I was worried that it was going to escalate," she recalled.

Thankfully, a couple who witnessed the attack yelled at the man to "keep walking," and that's exactly what he did.

The 26-year-old was widely praised online for defending herself.

"Good form too," one man wrote via Twitter. "Power and precision through first two knuckles. Excellent work."

"Respect all women in the world, they are not toys, that's guy should shame his act," said another Twitter user.

"Disgusted this happened to you. Looks like he got a right fistful! Well deserved I may add," one woman wrote. Another simply adding, "I love you."

"Sister, kick first. Then when he doubles over, hit between the eyes in the upper nose area. Then ask him if he'd treat The BVM that way. If he says no, repeat," advised another user.

Carr told Fox she was initially "embarrassed" that the post was so widely shared, as she does not advocate for violence as the first response to an altercation, though she noted that she did feel she was in danger.

"This type of street harassment is normalized and happens far too often. So many women don't know how to respond or don't feel confident enough sticking up for themselves," she said. "I don't think that violence is the answer, but I also think it's important for women to realize that they're not objects and they don't deserve to be treated this way."

"I'm no 'hero' for punching the guy, I was simply defending myself. I don't think that my reaction should be glorified," Carr added. "This happens to women every single day. I hope my role in this whole situation can be as a voice for those who didn't have one."

I admire her spunk but feel that she reacted entirely stupidly.

She could have escalated what was an unpleasant and offensive yet 'non-threatening' common assault into something far, far worse.

She should have moved away from the ignorant bastard whilst keeping him in her sights and enlisted the aid of other members of the public to telephone the police.

And he no doubt would have got away/faced a ridiculously silly punishment if he had been caught.

Good on her.

That may be so, but the turd would have had his NAME and his CRIME publicised but as it is now he remains anonymous.

There is also the very inescapable fact that - as fit and tough as she may be - HE just might have been a really dangerous psycho who once struck might have punched back and permanently injured or even killed her.

What he did was WRONG and OFFENSIVE but her reaction - though UNDERSTANDABLE - was stupid.

In my opinion.

one has to evaluate the situation before deciding on the action to take. If she was in a populated area there was no need to hit the person, a few words may have been sufficient. When you hit someone, you then go in to a lottery. Did you hit him hard enough so he doesnt get back up, if not, is he armed, does he have friends. If you hit him too hard, you are the one in trouble.

I don't think many peoples first reaction is to punch someone in the face. It tends to suggest she has anger issues .... if she is a body builder, has she been taking the odd steroid supplement? It wouldn't surprise me.

Indeed punching someone in the face is OTT for the crime of touching her bum, if the roles were reveresed no one would be calling him a King

Greater wisdom than that which you are displaying I am afraid.

You are OBVIOUSLY clueless about 'Self-Defence' under the law.

Do some research.

EXCELLENT points BOTS - especially the possible link with steroids.

He did deserve a snack in the face.

However, I agree with Kirk: making a confrontation physical unless you absolutely NEED to, is the wrong decision. Always. This applies if you're a 5' tall 7 stone female, a power lifter, or a 6'2 well built man. DON'T start real fights. Defend yourself from physical harm if it comes down to it.

There are multiple reasons for that. The first is that there are no guarantees in any fight, no matter how tough you think you are or how many fights you've been in, you can end up hurt. If it's a stranger, especially, you have absolutely no idea if they're carrying a weapon.

Secondly, even if it does "go your way"... I personally think people are too caught up in TV and Movie land where people get beaten senseless / knocked out cold with few consequences. Like I said above, these things are completely unpredictable - one unluckily placed punch, or a stumble where they fall and hit their head on the concrete, and you'll end up on GBH or even manslaughter charges. If you hit someone in the head or face you better be prepared for them dying. It's that simple.

You have a legal defense against that if you can say "They were going to physically hurt me and I had to act to defend myself". You do NOT have a defense if all you can say is "I was being harassed and I was pissed off". You'll go to prison.
