Off the top of my head Jurassic park immediately sprung to mind for the 90's, just because it was like nothing we'd ever seen before. Equally for the Noughties Avatar came to mind because that type of 3D was break through (despite whether you rated the film or not)

60s Probably something by Federico Fellini, probably 8 1/2. Fellini was a huge influence on what was to come in the 70s from the likes of Coppola and Scorsese.

70s I'd have to say something like Jaws, which influenced what is now known as the blockbuster.

80s is a tough choice. Again you'd have to look at Spielberg. E.T and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

ET I'd go with even though I preferred Indiana Jones, I think ET is more iconic

I wouldn't say Avatar has influenced much going forward though.

Jurassic Park, I agree, definitely.

Jurassic Park, I agree, definitely.
It did start a major trend of 3D films again though

Godfather was hugely influential in the 70 simply for the level of violence.

Matrix was influential due to the special effects. Bullet time has been used so many times since

I'd also have to give a mention to Miyazaki films in the 80s in terms of influential.

Matrix definitely, for bullet time and "gun fu" (the mix of guns and hand to hand) though being late 90's it more influenced movies from 2000 onwards. Overall for the 90's Jurassic Park is a good call, as it was really the birth of the "Special Effects Blockbuster" - where the special effects MADE the film more than anything else.

So...

70's - Star Wars

80's - E.T.

90's - Jurassic Park

00's - LOTR Trilogy. The birth of big budget, big concept, franchise cinema... designed to be multi-part and filmed concurrently, rather than standalone movies with "sequels".

Special Mention; Spider-Man (2002). The moment that superhero movies went truly mainstream and Hollywood realised they were a gold mine. Leading to;

10's - Avengers / MCU. I know technically it started with Iron Man in '08 but you only need to look at the highest grossing list from 2010 - present to see the effect the MCU has had. It really got into full swing with the first Avengers.

Special mention: Hunger Games, as it kicked off an absolute tonne of "Hunger games clones".

Agree TS. And there is Red Pill /Blue Pill from the Matrix that has also become hugely influential.

LOTR showed that seemingly unadaptable novels could become huge blockbusters.
