Default How do you feel about black African USA people and their constant use of the N word?

"*****" this, "*****" that

In rap songs and but also by younger people in city areas and i guess its spread over here as well in London and Birmingham.

How do you feel about it?

If they want to use it, use it, but don't go off on a white person who uses it uninformatively or because it's a lyric in a rap song. I can't remember who it was but I remember watching a video of a black artist who invited a fan up on stage at a gig, the fan was white and they sung along to a song which had the N word in. The white fan sung it and the whole crowd booed and the artist said he couldn't believe the fan said it. Nobody owns a word and if it's used in the right context then what's the problem? We were allowed to say ***** in school because it was written in the novels we read so we said it out loud in class, there's no escaping it.

I know the severity of it isn't comparable to the N word but I guess I have the same feeling about it as I do when saying "fag" or the one with "got" at the end when I'm talking with friends. It's something that takes me aback if someone non-queer uses it but it really depends on the context and your relationship with the person saying it.

I don't have a problem with singing the word if it's literally quoting someone else's song and lyrics, because that's just... karaoke. Would be like being punished for reading The Catcher in the Rye or Huckleberry Finn or something. I just think I'd probably censor myself if I was around someone I didn't know that well.

Not bothered, its up to them really. However I do find it ridiculous when some people will kick off about others repeating songs that say the word. I can't remember what song it was, but back when I used to work as a karaoke presenter some guy had asked for some rap song and this black guy started going absolutely mental when the singer said the lyric. Like proper screaming across the bar..and when the song finished he kept on going, but his mates joined in too calling the guy who was singing a 'racist twat' and such

Edit. ahhh, just seen my reply is extremely similar to Rileys. Guess this is not that rare a thing then, for people to kick off about others singing rap lyrics :S

Black people have every right to reclaim the n-word. Doesn’t concern you in any way.

I didn't say they should? If it's in a lyric or a book then they SHOULD be able to say it, but black people have a problem with that which I think is wrong.

considering that black people can’t be racist towards themselves, it’s just a mere insult when they say it to one another (if they’re fighting)

due to the history of the word, when a non-black person calls a black person the word than the context changes

Didn’t you say something about blacks being 3000 years behind whites in another thread implying we just excuse them everything because they know no better. What rubbish! They are as accountable for their words and actions the same as anyone else.

Just like white people cuss with other words. Should those words then be banned?

Don’t open your mouth about things you’ll never, ever understand.
