Default Advice please

So I've always wanted to be flight attendant/cabin crew, it's been like my dream since I was young but I got REALLY good GCSE results last year and I naively changed my path because of it... I'm now entering Year 13, getting good A-Level results so far and probably going to do a Geography degree...

I LOVE Geography and it's my passion, but I don't want to end up going down a path which I never really would've done in the first place if I didn't get the results I got...

What do you think? Should I finish my A-Levels then become a flight attendant (with quite a low pay but I would enjoy it) or go to university, get a degree and a higher paid job but probably not enjoy it as much??

Definitely go for a job you enjoy

Whats the point of putting so much time and effort into something you wouldn't enjoy not to mention money it costs

Go to be a flight attendant and your knowledge of geography will be looked on rather favourably in that career

Tbf if I did do a degree I'd only become a teacher so the pay wouldn't be that much more anyway lol

Finish your A-Levels and work hard at them, then go for being a flight attendant. You might find something you really want to do later in life that requires a degree... and this will be MUCH easier to pursue if you have NOT already been to University (and especially if you have a decent job that means you can save).

Far too many people feel like they're "supposed to" go to University straight out of school, end up doing something they don't really have any passion for, and then don't have the option of going back again later in life when they HAVE found something they want to do.

I honestly would recommend that almost everyone takes some time, until at least their early 20's, before applying to University. Gain some financial security / independence and adult social experience first and you'll be much more likely to make a success of Uni (if you do eventually decide to go).

There are a FEW exceptions to this where people straight out of school really do have a solid idea of what they want to do (e.g. I've known people who were pursuing medicine or computer science etc. since the age of 14 or 15) but generally I think people go far too young.

My brother is very intelligent and especially good at Maths and he always wanted to be a Maths teacher but because he was capable of getting high points in his leaving cert (A levels-ish) his school convinced him to do something else so he did a degree in engineering, then went to Hong Kong for 3 years teaching, came back to Ireland and went back to college to be a teacher anyway

You could always just do your degree and after that go for a flight attendants job atleast you have the option to change your mind then if the flight attendants job doesn't meet your expectations

Personally I would get your degree then do the flight attendant path. My brother is a pilot and sister in law is first class cabin crew and both say now its really competitive to get into (they work for BA though so may be different on smaller airlines). Good luck with your decision, follow your dreams

As someone who’s at university, if you wanna do something else but it has low pay, don’t do uni, you’ll be poor for a few years anyway thanks to debt. Do what you enjoy most and don’t just do something because more money or because it’s seemingly held to a higher regard because like who cares as long as you’re happy

Yeah finish A levels and do what you will enjoy. If you change your mind and want another job, you can do uni at any age anyway.

I'd say rather than geography to be a flight attendant, you'd be better off doing a language and maybe some kind of hospitality/food service course.
