Default Sticking it to the "vomit tasks" reality TV culture

a man of integrity.

I'm a Celeb has completely ruined reality TV tasks forever and I am tired af of every single series of BB, CBB, IAC, and presumably many more shows, revolving around a staple of "let's dig out those weird purple eggs and make everyone sick again lol"

WHO STILL FINDS THIS ENGROSSING? It lost its shock value in 2003.

(Also to everyone who thought all he'd do is sleep. As I predicted, he's organically creating tensions and divides and has now completely thrown open the house to Ben/Roxanne suspicions and drama.)

...watching people throw up is not reality TV, it’s repulsive tv...when was it reality to be forced to consume something which a body is rejecting in such a way as vomiting ...and to keep on consuming it and consuming it regardless of how much your body is saying no...would BB give a task where housemates had to consume alcohol to the point of that sort of bodily and physical reaction..?...it’s completely irresponsible and dumb and not entertainment at all...

Agree

I watch BB for the psychological/social experiment

I don't watch 'I'm a celebrity..' because it is too much about 'gross-out' shock rubbish

When BB do their 'disgusting' tasks i fast forward, every time

same and why I was pleased and plesantly surprised that Hardeep stayed, he is a housemate in the old school format

The admirable original 'Social Experiment' idea behind Big Brother was NEVER realistic being impossible to film without totally hidden cameras and any pretence of the show being such was soon abandoned.

Human behaviour and interaction are NEVER true once those participating in the 'social experiment' KNOW that they are on camera because they will ALWAYS play to the camera, yet with truly hidden cameras the results would be unbroadcastable.

The show is simply what all other 'Reality' shows are; Light Entertainment - part-scripted, production staff-prompted and strategically edited to provide the right blend of entertainment to stay commercially successful.

As such, the show has to refer and defer to demographics and the tastes of their audience, and ludicrous stunts such as the consuming of these vile, vomit-inducing foods are - apparently - still in vogue with the majority of viewers.

I personally did not find Hardeep's 'Lone Wolf' stand particularly noble, admirable, or genuine.

He could have registered his aversion with a smile or laugh and stayed as the mere observer that he was - I mean he had NOT been selected to actually EAT the vile trash - and it is a little late to be 'Opting Out' of any 'Task' or 'Game' under protest on a show such as BB where the format is well-known once you have 'prostituted your principles' and accepted the fat fee for signing up as a housemate.

In my opinion only, of course.

Fun fact - 1000 year old eggs/century eggs are actually just a few weeks old! They fermented/preserved for that time, and are a delicacy in China. I wonder how much of the squick comes from "ew so old!"

It's really not as deep as he made out. Made him come across as a sanctimonious prick.

Hardeep saved the series!

All I could imagine Stormy doing was sat around laughing with people!

I think his view was valid- although this sort of thing can be amusing to the viewer, I would imagine sitting in a room with people throwing up, the smells, and Gabby eating her own vomit(!) would be pretty vile.

He also said that, cooked properly, people can actually enjoy those things, and made a comment about it being wrong when some people have to rely on food banks, which is a fair point. Having an Indian heritage, I would imagine he is also very conscious of the poverty suffered by many people there, so would therefore be much more likely to see such a task as wrong.

I don't know his political beliefs, but I personally believe what he said was a reflection of those, and was what he truly felt. It did make me question whether such tasks were right. I find it difficult to watch food fights in the BB house knowing there is so much starvation in the world- to me, it is just morally wrong.

I also think he reacted that way as he was already feeling stressed for some reason- his body language certainly suggested this to me- and I felt it also suggested he went to the bedroom to be alone and de-stress rather than sleep.

Just a different interpretation and perspective really, which made him judge him less harshly.

When I read that they were doing another task like this I immediately lost interest. Surely the task team can think of something original

It's over-done but like, whatever I guess. Hardeep definitely looked too much into it though, not everything in life is a philosophical debate..
