The worst bit is that she hasn't even told them. The action is a terrible thing and it's wrong on her part, but she hasn't even owned up to the punishment she gave them. They'll learn nothing that way.

Needless waste of money. Those kids will grow up to be brats for a different reason now.

It has been my own personal, direct experience that the children of SERIOUSLY wealthy parents grow up with a far better understanding of money than their 'working-class' counterparts.

Perhaps? But wealthy people dont typically go about smashing ipads.. the issue isnt money, the issue is the needless waste of it.

I do not agree with what she did but am merely putting the 'other side of the coin' forward.

Alcoholism, Drug addiction, Obesity and Gambling Addiction are also examples of direct needless wastes of money and they create further needless wastes of substantial money having to be 'treated' by the NHS and other State Organisations.

Melodramatic and wasteful. Dreadful lesson about respecting and valuing expensive things they own for her kids.

Confiscating them would have been enough.

..Kirstie was a very priveledged child herself and I think she's trying to teach her children the value of things and some very good life lessons ...she obviously aims to practise what she feels is good parenting, rather than practise what she preaches...sadly I think she gets so much wrong in focusing on one thing but overlooking or dismissing so many other things ...it’s not just what an iPad costs and that the cost is huge to many parents who choose to give their children iPads and have to save hard or go without to be able to do that...its also that if the iPads are used to play games as her children did with things like Fortnite...as TS said, games will bring frustrations and with those frustrations, moments of anger etc...so a young child could quite easily throw the device to the floor or bang it on the table as she did with her frustration of them continuously breaking rules...in one tiny moment of anger that wouldn’t even be ‘typical’ for them....would she think that’s acceptable for them to do...it’s a practise what you preach thing for me...breaking house rules with regards the use isn’t acceptable to her but surely breaking something wilfully because rules are broken isn’t acceptable either ..is ‘the lesson’..?...

...With what she said about the McCanns ...?...it being ‘normal from the beginning of time’ to leave a young child or young children alone to go have a cup of tea with a neighbour or a drink at the pub etc...for many people that isn’t ‘normal’ because it only takes a split second for an accident to happen etc, nothing can be predicted as to be ‘safe’ ...but even for those parents who it had previously been normal since the beginning of time for...surely Madeleine’s disappearance was the time to address their ‘normality’ in terms of leaving their children alone and make changes....not to reaffirm it was ok to do it and to carry on doing it ...is the message she was giving out really...don’t defend but think about it for the future etc...

..I do understand with the first class flights as well and not allowing them for the children because they hadn’t ‘worked for them’...again though, for me ...kind of misguided or focusing on the ‘privilege’ part too much and overlooking or dismissing other things if greater importance...what if flying conditions had meant extreme turbulence or an emergency landing etc was something that happened and the children were not with their parents...were terrified on a flight for some reason and they were separated from a comfort needed...?...ok, don’t teach them ‘1st class or priveledged class’...but don’t have it for yourself either just because you have ‘worked for it and can afford it’ and her children aren’t at the age where they could have worked for a living for any priveledge yet...show them that sometimes other things are more important than what we can afford and stay with your young children in the same class seats you have chosen to put them into...just in case anything were to happen on the flight that may terrify them and potentially cause damage beyond any monetary value, type things...I just think she seems to focus on specific things too much and misses so many other things in parenting...well meaning, I’m sure though and a nice lady...I like Kirstie a lot ...but she does make me cringe a little at times with her parenting views...

It's not really the key point Arista, it has nothing to do with the cost of the items, it's a threatening / violent act designed to be intimidating. It doesn't matter how much the broken item cost. She claims to have smashed them in a "non-violent way" but that is simply nonsense. It's not possible. Smashing them "gently on a table leg" isn't non-violent, for a start, and for another... my 6 year old has an iPad - she's learning disabled and doesn't really understand that it could break so it gets thrown around a lot and it's fine - so if she hasn't managed to crack or even so much as scratch it in a whole year of being used every day, so I call utter BS that it didn't take considerable force / multiple blows to "smash" them. No one calm / in control acts like that. She had lost her temper and lashed out aggressively. It doesn't matter that it was at possessions, it's terrifying for a kid, and it IS tantamount to emotional abuse.

I'll say again; everyone loses their head occasionally, that's unavoidable, but the fact that she has no regret or those actions and even thinks that it was the right thing to so is the worrying part.

"violent act "

She stated very clearly
it was NOT done in a violent way.

"but that is simply nonsense."

She stayed Calm, to not show her kids her temper

"She had lost her temper and lashed out aggressively."
TS you are assuming that, you could be right or wrong.
