Default Amazon raises minimum wage for UK and USA staff

About Time Jeff.

[Amazon has raised the minimum wage for all its employees in the UK and USA,
after facing stinging criticism over the wealth of its founder and working conditions.
From 1 November, workers in London will see their pay rise to £10.50 an hour,
while those outside the capital will see their pay increased to £9.50 an hour.
More than 17,000 employees and 20,000 seasonal employees will benefit from the changes]

That's a positive change for sure. Good on them, and this is a great example of public pressure & awareness pushing up the living standards for those at the bottom

It still seems to be about half of what it takes to support a small family around where I live.

If a company chooses to do this, then good for them. But I don't think sudden increase in wages should be forced on companies, especially in a short amount of time they can't plan around. Having to suddenly pay out more than they were expecting leads to either staff being laid off (bad) or price increases (baaaaad!)

I've actually moved away from shopping at Amazon as much... nothing against them, but I don't want big boxes/regular shops to completely disappear. There are some things they are still great for though... like certain medical supplies, overseas stuff, etc...

It's good they raised their wages as they are making a hefty profit, but many places are doing the same here after the tax cuts. My husband just got a raise.

I was gonna apply to work with them but I’d rather work in retail/admin tbh till I go to uni next year.
