Default Bohemian Rhaspsody loses award nomination due to Director accusations

But he’s still set to make almost $40,000,000 from the film

Quote:
Bohemian Rhapsody” has been removed as a best original film nominee at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards, following new accusations of sexual assault and misconduct against director Bryan Singer.

The media watchdog told Variety exclusively it has pulled the film from contention for the prize, in a weighted decision that takes a stand for sexual assault victims.

“In light of the latest allegations against director Bryan Singer, GLAAD has made the difficult decision to remove ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ from contention for a GLAAD Media Award in the Outstanding Film – Wide Release category this year. This week’s story in The Atlantic documenting unspeakable harms endured by young men and teenage boys brought to light a reality that cannot be ignored or even tacitly rewarded,” GLAAD said in a statement to Variety.
Quote:
Despite being fired from the Oscar-nominated blockbuster, Singer remains the credited director and is still set to earn a hefty piece of the Queen movie’s profits.
Director Bryan Singer is set to earn tens of millions of dollars off the massive success of Bohemian Rhapsody, despite being fired from the movie mid-production and surrounded by controversy.

Thanks to a track record of years of hitmaking (including the X-Men franchise) and what is said to be a strong backend provision in his deal, Singer’s final payday for the Freddy Mercury biopic is expected to exceed the $40 million range, two knowledgeable sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Gross that despite being fired (the fact that he’s still HIRED is gross enough) he’ll still be profiting

Numerous accusations of rape/molestation from teenagers over the past decades

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine...source=twitter

Is a massive article with four stories which emerged last year alone

Ugh and he directed some of my favourites (X-Men). Interesting link Smithy, I didn't know he was accused of rape.

What he's been accused of is horrendous and it was right that he was fired from the movie, however, it had already gone into production and work had been done on it so there's not really any option of withholding payment. It's the same as any other job, really. I could get fired tomorrow but they can't then say "And we're not paying you for this month either!" ... they have to pay for the work that's been done, no matter the reasons for firing. It obviously seems much worse because of the insane sums of money involved, but it's a bit of a slippery slope to make it legal to not pay someone after you fire them.

All teenagers so it's statutory rape / sexual assault, not child molestation. Not aexcusing his actions but it's important to make the distinction and not "dilute paedophilia".

He was fired because of his on set attitude, nothing to do with the allegations against him

I get what you’re saying and I know nothing can be done, but it’s gross that he was even hired in the first place

Jeez I didn't realise there were that many accusations against him - if I recall he was accused when X-Men was being made, but the time and place of the allegation clashed with when he was filming, according to the stars... I hope they weren't covering for him, I like most of the X-Men actors, I don't want them to be complicit in covering up that sort of thing...

Anyway, it's a shame for the rest of cast and creatives that the nomination was dropped, they worked harder in it than he did

"following new accusations of sexual assault and misconduct against director Bryan Singer."

I suppose the ones made over a decade ago didn't matter. Guy's 2nd only to Weinstein in "creepiest nonce in Hollywood", if that were a Razzie award.

It’s similar to the R Kelly thing really, action only being take now because of the documentary about him. Gross.
