Gloating is never a good look.

This story turned out to be just that a story, but let's face it, it just as easily could have been true. Racial and homophobic attacks are still far too commonplace and many will go unreported, probably more so now after this shower.

Having empathy for someone who said they had been attacked is now to be ridiculed? All this "I told you so" ****e, is just that....****e.

I hope Jussie gets dealt with quickly and seriously for false reporting a serious crime. Its low, whatevr his justification.

It wasn't an unbelievable story to the police investigating it for weeks before the new facts came to light. If you think that you, a british person who has no connection to the Chicago police and thus no real knowledge of the inner workings of the case beyond what was being reported somehow had some sort of knowledge that trumped all that... Well, I don't need to state how ridiculous that would be, do I?

The only reason to doubt the story before the narrative changed after the 'attackers' were apprehended was because you didn't want to believe it, thus your biases swayed your thoughts on the matter.

Sorry but i cant answer you if you constantly claim to know exactly what everyone in the thread was doing and why - you dont
Speak the truth for once, you're not answering because you don't have an answer and you don't want to admit I'm right and so you're trying to wriggle out of it with a pathetic attempt to cast doubt on what I'm saying without a cohesive argument. Acting dense doesn't make my point any less valid, LT.

Alf said early on in the thread that he doubted the story because he didn't want to believe the MAGA aspect. That's there in the thread.

Also, reading comprehension is your friend, LT. It's plain to see what motivated the doubt when everything else pointed to the contrary. Did you not learn about reading between the lines in school?

Wow Dezzy the mindreader ... Not.

Like I said multiple times, it was the details that made it unbelievable:
- him being recognised in passing when wrapped up for warmth on a dark night
- that some would-be lynchers were roaming the streets when the temperature was like -20' with a handy noose
- swanky Chicago neighborhoods are one of the farthest things from "MAGA country"
- that his phone he was speaking on was not stolen and his Sub wasn't ruined

Like I've also repeated, if his story began and ended with him being punched/pushed and called the n-word, no-one would doubt it.

And you're pretending to be dense to try to discredit what I'm saying because you don't have an actual argument to do so. You've responded twice on this issue now and you've yet to actually come up with a solid counterpoint, you're just trying to brush what I'm saying under the table with bull****.

It's blatant and I will point it out. Either serve up a counter argument or admit that you can't.

Oh wow, the early 90's 'not' burn, how will I ever recover from such a scalping? Doing the LT defense won't help you any more then it does for him.

Nothing you have said has really damaged my argument. The police believed and investigated Smollet's narrative until after they apprehended the 'attackers.' A few points you've just thought of in retrospect doesn't make it so that you had knowledge that the police did not.

Logic dictates that there was no real reason to doubt Smollet's version of events until the 'attackers' were arrested, the police certainly didn't and they had more knowledge than you or I. You doubted the story because you didn't want to believe it, simple as. To gloat over this is grim, especially considering that it's out of pure luck that you happened to be right.

Very disappointed in him, I believed him and stood by him as well. But like it has already been pointed out, nobody should feel silly or the need to apologise because they believed him, and they were the better person for believing him 100%.

I said it in the other thread but I’ll say it in here too, I would always rather believe something like this and have it turn out to be false, than dismiss it and have it turn out to be true.

I didn't think of anything in retrospect, I've been saying all of that since the start, it's why I never believed the story as presented.

Possible motive uncovered:

Quote:
Jussie Smollett was dissatisfied with his salary on Empire, prompting him to pay $3,500 to stage the alleged attack on him, according to police.

On Thursday morning, hours after Smollett turned himself in on charges on filing a false police report, Chicago PD had a press conference to lay out their case. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson opened up the proceedings with strong words, saying Smollett “took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote this career.” He further shared that the Empire star was behind the threatening letter that he had previously received and when that didn’t get the reaction he wanted, Smollett paid $3,500 to Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, who he knew through the hit Fox series. Detective Edward Wodnicki then went through the entire timeline, going inside the entire investigation. Smollett will be going in front of a judge at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Gross, his current gig would have led to others, he would have likely had a good career in TV long after Empire ends had it not been for this. I hope the judge throws the book at him and highlights in their address the damage this crime can cause for victims of genuine hate crimes.

He was in the latest Alien film as well, so he could have got into Hollywood...

Can you contest something if you turn yourself in?

Yes thanks Arista for bringing this new piece of information to my attention but the way I see it, this shouldn’t about “[Poster’s name] was correct so he won!” because imo that’s quite a childish mindset to have?
