The way the films are made rob the people of their dignity in order to make a shocking and emotionally manipulative ploy for donations and these films become more about how the celebrities react to the situation rather than the situation itself. Like Lammy said, the celebs undoubtedly have good intentions but the whole presentation of it is unsavoury.

I like the idea of an african team making these films instead and presenting an authentic image of the plight people face without robbing them of their dignity.

There does need to be more education about these countries.

Unfortunately the problem with that is that people wont donate as much or at all because who is going to watch a Comic/Sports relief type programme with no celebs, there are plenty black celebs who could throw their weight behind it and given we are supposed to be be seeing past colour its a bit rich to say we don;t want white celebs getting behind causes in Africa, personally I never give to these charities any more, they must have bought a life time supply of malaria nets and tablets by now surely....where is the money going, same thing every year, malaria, vaccination, water..... and no body ever asks!!! absolutely no accountability, I can see the issue with the Stacey Dooley pic, that said we live in an instagram world and if she posed alone there would be every more accusations.

The whole point ( to me) of such charity events is to provide immediate relief to short term problems, like a failure of crops etc causing famine/shortages of water.

The money is just not being used as it was meant to be. It's also not helped by stars attaching themselves to such causes to promote their latest endeavour.

We have been giving for decades, it's clearly not a solution to the problem. Anyone that still donates to these causes is sadly wasting their money.

It wasn't about the colour of people helping, he was talking about the images shown on TV with little passive black orphans. The idea that Africans as swinging on trees until the white man got there has been prevalent for a while, which is where the "white saviours" stuff comes from. Don't have to go too far back in time to see any films showing Africans would show cannibal tribes with bones through their noses, when the actual history of Africa is completely different. They had bustling civilisations with embassies in Italy 500 years ago, ancient Egyptians were black Africans too.

Maybe a comic relief documentary about Europe's role in the modern plight of the continent might help people to see his point of view rather than "white people should stop giving money because one black person said something I don't like"

If Lammy was the first wounded black person to kick out at white people over their generosity it wouldn't be so bad... but this isn't an isolated incident. It's been a long time since colonialism... and they've had, since then, an almost continual flow of cash from people, a lot of whom probably feel guilty because of all this 'wicked colonialists' crap that's still spouted without ever the balancing argument of what's happened since.

Africa is a mess... genocide, FGM, piracy corruption... and we're no longer responsible for that. They're *******ing up all on their own.

I support a few charities regularly including MSF, the Red Cross, and I sponsor two children in India. And like I say... I will not support Comic Relief this year, despite Lenny Henry weighing in in Stacey Dooley's defence. I mean, it's not the first time I've seen her in Africa, hugging a black person and highlighting an injustice.... the interfering bitch, eh. Ahh, so if it was only one black person voicing concerns, you'd have been ok with that, but because it's a few of those uppity blacks then it's a problem.

But if you want a load of white folk to donate loads of money then you have to have those white folk in the documentaries...it's only black folk that are picking up on something that's just not there..



I do get his view on it and I would find that horrendous if that's what it was, but it just isn't. .who else can they send?
